You've been taking B12 and folate for your MTHFR gene.
Still exhausted. Still foggy. Still not right.
Here's what most practitioners don't tell you.
Follow,
Before SAMe can support your neurotransmitters, hormones, detox or DNA repair, your body is already using ~70% of its entire methyl group output to make just two molecules: creatine and phosphatidylcholine.
Two enzymes are responsible. GAMT and PEMT.
GAMT uses SAMe in the liver to finish creatine synthesis. PEMT uses three SAMe molecules per cycle to produce phosphatidylcholine.
Every single cycle also produces SAH, which inhibits GAMT, COMT, PEMT and every other methyltransferase. A drain on a drain.
And the betaine bypass (BHMT)? Active in the liver and kidney only. Not in the brain.
So when you add more B vitamins onto a depleted SAMe pool, you're not fixing the underlying problem β you're adding pressure to a leaking system.
The solution isn't more B12. It's reducing the demand.
Supplementing creatine (3β5g/day) and phosphatidylcholine directly spares SAMe β freeing it for the pathways you actually need: mood, detox, hormones, cell repair.
In a documented MTHFR 677TT case, creatine alone reduced homocysteine from 33.3 to 17.1 ΞΌmol/L within 4 weeks. No methylfolate change. Just reducing the drain.

5 MTHFR-related diagnoses you would never think of.
Can you guess any?
MTHFR variants affect methylation, the process that controls vascular health, neurological function, hormones, and detox. When it's dialled down, it doesn't just cause fatigue. It can drive pathology that looks like five completely different conditions.
Glaucoma. Migraines with aura. Blood clots. Hypothyroidism. Treatment-resistant erectile dysfunction.
The common thread? Elevated homocysteine and an upstream gene that most clinicians never test for.
Save this post and share it with someone who has any of these diagnoses.

Read this before you go to the dentist
"Laughing gas" is one of the most common gases used in dentistry. And most people with MTHFR have no idea what it does to their B12.
Follow and
N2O permanently destroys B12 by oxidising the cobalt atom at its core. That knocks out the MTR enzyme - the one responsible for recycling homocysteine AND releasing active folate.
For people with MTHFR, these compounds are already in a reduced system. Active folate gets trapped - present in your blood, but completely unusable. Your labs may look normal. The problem isn't.
Save this before your next dental appointment. And share it with anyone you know who has MTHFR.

There's something they may not have checked.
MTHFR is a gene variant carried by up to 40% of women.
It reduces your ability to convert folic acid into the active folate your pregnancy actually needs. The result: elevated homocysteine, impaired placentation, and a risk of miscarriage 2-3x higher than average.
The test costs is inexpensive.
Most women are never offered it.
This carousel covers: what MTHFR does to early pregnancy, why folic acid isn't enough, and the exact protocol I use in clinic with patients who've had recurrent losses.

Taking methylfolate and still feeling awful? It's probably not the dose.
Most people with MTHFR are told one thing: take methylfolate. Some are even taking it. And they're still exhausted, foggy, anxious.
Here's what nobody told them: methylfolate is the last step. Before it can work, your body needs a precise set of cofactors in place. Without them, you're pushing fuel into an engine with no spark plugs.
In this carousel: the 5 cofactors, why each one matters, and the one thyroid connection that almost everyone misses.

If you carry an MTHFR variant, the Pill has been depleting your methylation reserves for months or years. By the time you stop to conceive, your folate, B12 and SAM may be at their lowest point - exactly when demand peaks.
Folic acid will not fix this. Here's what actually works. Save this and share with someone who needs it.

If you have an MTHFR mutation, what you eat matters more than you think. Your gene controls how you convert folate: the wrong foods block that process, the right ones keep it running.

it disrupts the very pathway your MTHFR gene depends on.
Two things happen simultaneously:
β Gut wall damage reduces your capacity to absorb folate
β Enriched gluten foods are loaded with synthetic folic acid that MTHFR carriers can't convert: blocking natural folate at the receptor
Follow,
The result: impaired methylation, rising homocysteine, depleted glutathione, and disrupted neurotransmitter synthesis.
A gluten-free diet alone won't fix this. Swipe to see what actually needs to happen. π

Most people have never heard of homocysteine. But when it builds up β due to MTHFR variants, nutritional gaps, or both β it activates brain receptors that shouldn't be firing, depletes your master antioxidant, and steals the raw materials for dopamine and serotonin.
The result? Brain fog. Low mood. Poor memory. Anxiety. And a trajectory toward cognitive decline that starts silently, years before any diagnosis.
The neurological risk threshold is 10 Β΅mol/L. The optimal target is below 7. Your lab's upper reference limit of 15 is not protecting your brain.
Save this. Share it with someone who needs to know.
