I’ve found the perfect “meet in the middle” spot for Gold Coast + Brisbane families:
This suburban icon has just had its first major renovation in more than 15 years, and it honestly feels like a completely new venue. Think modern family-friendly spaces, a relaxed atmosphere, and not one… but TWO dedicated kids areas
There’s a huge indoor playground with plenty of space for the kids to run around, plus a quieter kids lounge with books, games and an interactive drawing board for calmer play.
The menu has all the elevated pub classics you actually want to eat — think hand-crumbed schnitzels, and share plates that are perfect for group catch-ups.
But honestly… the dessert station deserves its own mention. Ice cream, sweets, cakes and treats that make it VERY hard to leave without dessert.
Whether it’s a long overdue catch-up with mates, a family dinner, or an easy halfway meeting point between Brisbane and the Gold Coast… is worth adding to your list.
Just a few events happening this weekend you might want to check out!
Let me know if you'd like to see this every Friday!
This brand new playground opened last week and it’s quickly becoming one of the most popular scooter + bike parks on the Gold Coast. Think smooth pathways perfect for scooters, bikes and balance bikes, an awesome mini pump track the kids will lap a hundred times, plus fresh new playground equipment to explore 🛴 There’s also a flying fox, best for the older kids as it is a bit high to get on, but little ones can use it with assistance.
Parents will love that there’s also a toilet nearby too 🙌 making those longer park sessions way easier.
There’s heaps of open space to run around, shaded spots to sit, and enough paths to keep the kids busy for ages. Perfect for after school rides, weekend playdates or burning off some energy before dinner.
Definitely one to add to your park list 👏
📍 Abbott Park, Parkwood
One of the best parts of Crystal Castle is how interactive it is, so the kids are fully engaged instead of just tagging along. There is a scavenger hunt through the gardens where they search for hidden details among crystals, statues and rainforest paths, working their way toward a little prize at the end. There is also a playground to burn off energy, complete with a friendly dragon that feels straight out of a storybook. The kids can explore while parents get a chance to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
The whole place sits against those sweeping hinterland views, so even walking between spots feels special. There are plenty of little corners that turn into instant photo ops, whether it is standing beside massive amethyst geodes, wandering through bamboo-lined paths, or capturing the kids mid discovery as they find yet another sparkly rock they suddenly cannot live without.
Individual tickets are quite pricey, but a family pass is great value and saves you 30% on individual prices. A quick search of their Facebook page often turns up monthly discount codes too, so be sure to check before booking!
The kids are going to love this splash pad — there’s water sprayers, a big tipping bucket and the double waterslide is a huge hit with the kids! There’s plenty of space to spread out alongside the 50 metre pool, great if you’ve got kids wanting to swim laps or just burn some energy. And honestly… Gold Coast kids never seem to feel the cold, so swim season is definitely still happening.
They’re also taking bookings for birthday parties here, which would be a fun and easy party option no matter the time of year. Add this one to the to-visit list!
The playground itself includes a mix of swings, a climbing frame and a slide, along with plenty of open paths that are perfect for scooters and bike riding. There’s also a basketball court nearby, which adds another option for older kids, and public toilets on site, which makes longer visits easier to manage. It’s the kind of park that works well for a quick play stop or a longer afternoon where kids can move between different activities without needing to travel anywhere else.
If you're looking for a nearby coffee stop or a bite to eat, check out at just across the road!
If you’re looking for something easy, free and genuinely impressive to do with the kids, Dinosaurs Unearthed at the Queensland Museum is a must-visit. The exhibit brings ancient Queensland to life, featuring incredible local giants like Australovenator and the massive Megalania. A fun, hands-on way to step into 250 million years of history — right in the middle of Brisbane.
I've got a full review on it here:
#QueenslandDinosaurWeek #NationalDinosaurDay #DinosaursUnearthed #QueenslandMuseum
Then, click on your webpage options (in my case the 3 dots in the corner) and select “Add to Home Screen”.
Now you should have a quick link button on your home screen! All you have to do is click that button and you’ll land straight back on the Map Directory.
Use the Filter on the Map directory to find playgrounds, bike tracks and more at the click of a button. Tap on each icon to see a quick summary of the location, and click More Details to get the full review, or Directions to open in Maps.
So there you have it, it’s not quite an app, but it’s an app hack and I hope it helps!
