All this “in the next life” is BS!! DO IT NOW!
It was hard work being her caregiver during her final months but it was the most rewarding thing ever.
The conversations we had, chilling watching sex in the city and eating snacks and her telling me about her days in New York as a youth and all her world travels.
Watching her eyes light up when she saw it was me when I woke her up in the morning to start her day.
No matter how bad she felt she ALWAYS asked me how I was doing.
She was so worried that she was leaving things undone, I told her every day. “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything mom”
she would reply
“of course you will, you’ve take care of everything you’re my hero! I’m so happy it was you that stayed to take care of me, I have so many things to tell you before I go”
She was so scared of death… but she did her best to hide that fear and to hide her pain.
She was the best during those last months, even tho she was scared to be alone she forced me to leave on Sundays and go do something that I enjoy.
I wanna think my tai chi family for those Sunday hangs. Those 90 minutes we would spend together were EVERYTHING!
Then I would for a bike ride for 2 hours and when I got home she would want to know what I saw that day….
Bed ridden in those last months she was living vicariously through me.
I would pick up her fave snack (crispy Tacos from Jack N the Box)
And we would sit and watch a movie or Sex in the City reruns.
Until it was bedtime….
I had to stop djing and doing all my other gigs because there was no way to dj at a venue to 2-3am and then wake up at 5am to take care of her.
She felt really bad about that but I told her that as long as I got some extra hugs and kisses from her that stuff didn’t matter.
I’m sad we waited until the end to become the mother and son we were always meant to be.
I miss her…

I was also her caregiver so that’s why you haven’t seen me posting DJ gigs & was only able to take a handful of production gigs.
i took the year off to look after her, and i was grateful for the chance to be the one to see her off into the next realm.
we got to bond in a way, that i never thought was possible.
long conversations about life + her past + her trips and where she wanted to scatter her remains.
the two of us watching sex in the city together (she loved those ladies) + hearing about her NYC stories of her youth.
the way her eyes lit up when i made her my famous avocado toast (it was famous to her)
my mom was tough as nails and no matter how sick she felt she always wanted to make sure i was doing okay.
i guess you never stop being a mom no matter what.
my mom suffered from Dementia + other health issues so there were days that were very tough.
i took care of her all by myself with only help from a handful of friends and in the end the hospice team i got her.
i have the utmost respect for that member of the family that takes on the task of being their loved ones caregiver.
it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life but it was wonderful + rewarding at the same time.
my mom was a 2 time cancer survivor, i drove her to every cancer treatment & appointment and afterwards (no matter how bad she felt)
she wanted some guacamole + a stiff margarita (from scratch) from her fave place in LA
i wanna thank them for always taking care of us + treating her like a queen.
in closing, if your parents are still alive give them a hug + ask them as many questions as possible
i’m trying to do normal things but i’m gonna need a bunch of help from my friends who i also consider family (U know who U are).
thank you to those who have reached out to check on me.
