Vojislav Radovanović: Fables from the Valley in Between brings together paintings, sculptures, video, and installations from two recent bodies of work that are defined by themes of queer sanctuary, mythic storytelling, and transformative symbolism.
In his Bird Circuit series, Radovanović draws upon the history of mid-20th century queer bars with bird-inspired names. This hidden network of sites offering refuge and resistance in cities like Los Angeles and New York is reimagined through whimsical dreamscapes rich with avian imagery and vibrant colors. Spanning multiple joined canvases, the paintings feature human and animal figures merging with landscapes.Layers of symbolism are covered with new paint and selectively scraped away to reveal traces of what came before. This act of concealment and revelation reflects his broader conceptual investigation of visibility and transformation.
Where Bird Circuit portrays imaginary landscapes shaped by migration, resilience, and the search for belonging, works from the Playground at The AbandonedChapel series extend this inquiry into personal mythology. Originally created as part of a site-specific installation in the rubble of an abandoned school in the AntelopeValley, these works transform the materials and stories of the region into symbolic tales of metamorphosis, healing, and renewal. Together, the exhibition’s two series weave real and imagined histories into a narrative exploring queer identity, mental health, and community.

I am so happy that dear old friends and colleagues alongside new friends came to experience my art at the exhibition and some could stop by for the after party at our home and studio.
This show is a kind of survey of work I created in recent years and a celebration of 8 years since I moved to USA and became part of the most amazing art community in Los Angeles.
MOAH Lancaster is one of the very special places in my heart. I won my first LA award in 2018 at their annual juried exhibition, I spent a full year as artist in residence as part of AAW program in 2022/3, and I produced 3 different murals at two city parks in Lancaster.
And I adore people who work here. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the amazing sr curator and his assistants Clara Baxter and for this experience.
Special thanks to all of my collectors for supporting my work and my collaborators who have joined me in the creative endeavors over the years - the gorgeous music of video performances by, the alway memorable late Robert Patrick and finally my biggest supporter who also knows my work best and is my love
I am filled with gratitude and hope folks will get the opportunity to visit the exhibition on view through April 19. I’ve also been scheduled to deliver an artist talk and walkthrough on my birthday Saturday, March 7 at 1pm - but I’d love to share it with people any time!
We are almost done with the installation and getting ready for this Saturday, January 31st with opening reception from 12pm-4pm.
This show is in part a survey of recent exhibitions, but I will be also presenting many new paintings and sculptures, together with a video art piece made in collaboration with and the late Robert Patrick Playwright.
