Campground bookings opened in Kootenay NP this morning, and somehow I completely forgot. 😆 - and I would not be forgiven if I didn't get at least one campsite at Redstreak in Radium Hot Springs! 🏕️
Thank God I got through the queue in record breaking time, and there were still a couple of good campsites for the Mothers Day weekend in May. 🌻
For a short weekend we didn't need anywhere fancy to camp, and we'll be busy paddling the river, mountain biking, soaking in the hot springs, and hiking in search of balsam root sunflowers around Redstreak. But we needed something that wasn't on top of the bathrooms! 😂

We skied down the Tramline trail to the Bow River Loop. From there we followed the pristine tracksetting and little orange flags to guide us to the highway 1A.
The section from the Lake Louise campground to the 1A near Morant's Curve and onwards to Baker Creek is only trackset once a year for the Lake Louise to Banff Loppet (which was yesterday.)
You follow a groomed trail along closed campground roads, across train tracks, under the TransCanada Highway, down another closed road to the Coral Creek day use area, and then for a spectacular finish across glorious meadows along Coral Creek. You end up on the 1A near Morant's Curve
We stopped there after 13km of skiing where we had a vehichle parked to return our drivers to Louise.
Great day and awesome tracksetting on the part of the course we skied.

Miles of fresh grooming and tracksetting, and whenever the tracks got icy you could just step out to climb or descend.
We did a big 19km loop to the Banff border and back. My son and I had creative differences so we ended up skiing separate loops. He refused to leave the icy black trails, I just wanted to live to see another day. 🤪
✨ Fav. trails were Meadowview and Bow along with the new Cold Shoulder Loop at the end of Banff Ave.
