Holly came to Moody Bible Institute in 1993 with dreams of music ministry and quickly fell in love with fellow student Scott Nesbitt. After marrying in 1996, the couple moved to Vermont to help launch a Christian adventure camp for inner-city teens.
But in 2000, tragedy struck when Scott and Holly’s brother-in-law, James, were killed in a canoeing accident while scouting river locations for the camp. Holly was just 25 years old and had a young daughter.
“My whole world was upside down,” Holly shared. “I was a widow at 25.”
In the middle of grief, Holly says God met her in a deeply personal way:
🗣️: “It was as if He was right next to me… ‘Help! I need help now!’” 🫂
Through worship and songwriting with her sister, healing slowly began. Eventually, Holly met musician Aaron Snell, and the two later married and entered ministry together. 💌
Today, Holly serves as executive director of Hope Women’s Center in McKinney, Texas, helping women facing crisis pregnancies, trauma, abortion recovery, and difficult life circumstances. 🙏
Under her leadership, the ministry has expanded counseling services, adoption support, maternity housing, and care for women in need.
Her message to others walking through pain:
🗣️: “God does His deepest work in the dark… When I couldn’t hold on to Him, He held on to me.” 🤍
Today, we remember and honor the sacrifice of the men and women who have given their lives in service to our country.
We celebrate our graduates today, students who have been shaped in knowledge, strengthened in character, and grounded in Christ. As they step into what’s next, we pray they continue to walk in the Lord's purpose for their lives. 🤍
To God be the glory for this season and the one ahead. 💙
Gary and his wife Bonnie moved to Sidon, Lebanon, in 2001 to share the hope of Jesus with people affected by war. Despite rising anti-American tension after 9/11, they chose to stay.
🗣️ “We both believed giving our lives for these people was worth it,” Gary shared. 🤍
In 2002, Bonnie was tragically martyred while serving at a prenatal clinic in Sidon. In the middle of unimaginable grief, Gary says the Lord asked him a life-changing question: would he choose anger or forgiveness?
Gary shared Bonnie’s story at Moody during a student chapel service only three weeks after her passing. He describes this life changing moment as a message of surrender and trust in God:
🗣️: “I’m here to tell you everything was taken from me, but I’m standing on a rock. The storm came through and I’m standing firm.” 🙏
Remembering Jesus on the cross, Gary responded, “Lord, you’ve forgiven me so much… today I will forgive whoever killed my wife.” At Bonnie’s memorial service heard around the world, he publicly declared: “I forgive this man because Jesus has forgiven me.” 📖 ✝️
Years later, Gary continues serving with Operation Mobilization alongside his wife Helena, mentoring students, caring for refugees, and studying “The Theology of Suffering” through his PhD work. 🤲
One of his most powerful reminders to students:
🗣️ “Each of our lives is a unique letter, one that reflects Christ’s truth by testifying that hope, forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration are real.” 🙌
