Talking with Farmers is an ongoing series of lectures, discussions, Q + As, how-tos + demos with farmers + makers in our New England foodshed.

Momma’s Grocery + Wine sources produce, meat, cheese + milk, grains, fish, snacks, flowers + value-added goods from New England year round. Most of the produce is organically grown in healthy New England soils + all of the farmers we work with believe in leaving the soil, waterways + our broader community better than they started. There’s a gap in the understanding of how food gets on the table: how it grows, what kind of work that takes + problems that farmers face. In this series we will discuss anything from dreaming up a farm, to choosing certifications, crop loss, soil health, egg production, or why one chooses to grow food in the first place.

On Tuesday, January 27 from 6-8PM, Michael Bane will join us at Zusammen to discuss his career change + ultimately, moving his life full time to Westport, MA to his farm: Bane Farm, a diversified veggie + chicken farm. If you live local to Momma’s, you may have shopped his farmstand in the summer outside of Bane Dentistry at 2179 Mass Ave. Michael will talk about moving from dentistry to farming + dig into his farming philosophy of adding rather than an extracting, + building up the soil + pasture to leave behind more, not less, for the future.

Tickets, in bio or on our website, include a complimentary beverage + snack. 10% off Bane Farm eggs at Momma’s with your e-ticket on the day of the event.
This event is at Zusammen. All ages are welcome!
Grown by Kitchen Garden Farm in Sunderland, MA.

Monday, November 10th, and are excited to welcome Lebanese winemaker Maher Harb of Sept Winery Maher will present a selection of his wines and to speak about Lebanon’s ancient winemaking heritage and his winery perched high in the Batroun mountains, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea 🇱🇧 Limited spots. Link in bio.

Maher Harb crafts honest, authentic, natural “wines of place” to allow the Mediterranean mountain terroir to express itself. has been on the vanguard of Lebanon’s natural wine movement for over 10 years, reintroducing heritage techniques and varieties such as Obeideh, Merweh, and Zitani. We will taste a selection of these wines, including his Merwah produced of grapes from ungrafted 200+ years old vines interplanted among olive trees that have wildly and quietly been thriving in their environment for centuries.

Maher left a career in data consulting in France in 2010 to return to his homeland and family plot in the village of Nehla. It was there that he personally planted 5,000 vines by hand in 2012. It is Maher’s passion and mission to highlight the value and singularity of what Lebanese vineyards have to offer.

East West Wines has been passionately sharing the wines and stories of winemakers from Southeastern Europe over the past 2 years in Massachusetts. We will be expanding East, deeper into the Ancient Wine World, to continue sharing regions that are the roots of winemaking as we know it today. We are excited to work on this in collaboration with our dear friend and sommelier Amelia Charles who lived many years in Beirut exploring Lebanon’s wine regions by motorcycle. We just got back from a trip to Maher’s vineyards in September and we can’t wait for the wines to arrive in Massachusetts soon.

Eliot from Marzae Wine will be hosting a vermouth workshop + tasting at Zusammen. With Eliot, you will:
-learn how vermouth is made
-taste through 6+ vermouth + discuss each one
-smell, taste, discuss botanicals/ingredients in vermouth
-blend a vermouth to take home (Please bring 2-3 glass vessels to blend in)
-taste unreleased Marzae vermouth-in-process

We opened Zusammen in April to be a place for tasting, learning, convening + listening. This is the first workshop we’re putting together, we’re focused on learning, guided tasting + bringing industry experts + you into the same conversation.

Until 2029 Marzae’s wines are made with grapes + fruits sourced from Northeast vine farmers + orchards. They’re currently planting their own vineyard in Haverhill, MA. Transparency in winemaking is utmost to Marzae’s work; on their website they have very detailed tech sheets outlining varietals, sourcing + any additives in their wines (not typical). The vineyard they are planting is “regenerative” + they have a page on their website outlining what that means to them.

*How we got to $60 ticket price?
-Each taste of vermouth is $7-18 at Zusammen
-2 hours of an industry experts time
-3 hours of a Zusammen staff member’s time
-Overhead (rent, utilities, licensing costs)
-Cost of botanicals + spirit
