The couple had fallen in love with a ring I had created for another client in the past. Taking the essence of that design, I created a new pair, thoughtfully designed just for them.
Although they live overseas and we never had the chance to speak in person, I was able to work with complete peace of mind thanks to today's remarkably advanced translation apps, and to the kindness and thoughtfulness they showed in every message.
Throughout our conversations as we refined the design, and also through the typeface they chose for the engraving, I could truly sense their wonderful taste.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for entrusting me with such a meaningful piece.

包容力や優しさ、空気そのものを表すような、緩やかに湾曲したレイヤーをベースの形とし、
その上で、Iさんの指輪はより生命力を感じる力強さを、
Mさんの指輪は、ピュアで繊細な印象を大切にして、デザインしています。
一瞬だけど、確かなもの、
ピュアで、繊細で、温かな空気を感じる指輪を作ろうと決め、形を探りました。

Mさんはフォトグラファーで、写真を撮ってらっしゃいます。
Mさんの写真を見ていると、4〜5歳の頃、ひとりで冷たい畳に寝転がって、布団を干している窓の向こうに感じる気配を、ぼんやり感じていた時の事を思い出します。(今も大して過ごし方は変わっていないのですが…)
ゆったりとして、優しい、愛しい気持ちにさせてくれます🫧

お二人のお人柄と関係性、また「双龍結縁」のお話しをお聞かせいただいて、
「二つが一つになる(近付く)」をコンセプトに取り組みました。
その「二つ」は、生命力があり、飾らず、そのままでいて美しいものであること、
また、壮大で運命性をまとうものである、というイメージを元に形を探しました。
様々なプロセスを経て、
力強い二つのラインと、その間に生まれる空間を含めて、一つとし、デザインしています。
ご依頼くださったお二人の気高さと活力あるお人柄、またお気持ちに、真摯に打ち返したい思いで取り組みました。
大変勉強となる、楽しい制作となりました。
Yoさんとは6年ほど前に展示会で知り合い仲良くさせていただいてますが、竹を素材にものづくりされていて、そのストイックな姿勢に(でもプライベートはとっても愛情深いその優しさにも)、いつも刺激を受けています◎

5月31日で、二人展が無事終了いたしました。
足をお運びくださり、遠くから気にかけてくださり、本当にありがとうございました。
ジュエリーではなく、初めてアートピースをメインとして展示する機会をいただきましたが、とても楽しく、学びのある展示となりました。

5月で、moi.toi.をスタートして10年が経ちました。
相変わらずマイペースではありますが、お陰様でこれまで続けることが出来ました。ありがとうございます◎
10代の頃、生きるならやりたいことをやろう、という気持ちから、ものづくりの仕事をひとりですることを決意し、今に至りますが、ここ数年は、どのような姿勢で作れば良いのかを模索した年でもありました。
今年に入ってから、すぱーん！と靄が晴れ、作り始めた時のような純粋な気持ちで、また向き合うことが出来ています。
たくさん見て、感じて、考えてきた分、感動のハードルは上がりましたが、うんうん頭を悩ませながらも、作ったものに感動する時、海でイルカと一緒に泳いでいるような(泳いだことないんですが、たぶんそのような)、世界のほんの隅っこの一部と、一緒になれたような気持ちがしています🐬
次回は、急遽決まりました、他分野の皆さまとの合同出展 in 大阪です。
チョウの作品にしようかなと思っています。

今回の二人展でお能の謡本の作品を購入いただいたと聞き、改めて作品の経緯と、感じたことをテキストにおこしました。

毎年春、京都和知の山野草の森で開催される「森の展示室」の出品作品として作りました。
その年の展示会のテーマは「シン」。真、新、心、芯、と色んな言葉が連想されますが、私は静けさを表す「しん(とした)」をテーマにし、またモチーフとして「本」を選び、本を用いて作ることを決めました。(何故、本から静けさを感じるかは長くなるので割愛します)
静けさを作るつもりが、しん、としたフリをしていたモノたちを暴くような作品になりました。
文字を切る感覚は、写真を切る感覚に近く。切った文字が絡み合い、重なり合い、縒り合い、切り取られる様を見ていると、文字(=言葉=意味)そのものを工作しているような気持ちになりました。何か腑に落ちるものが欲しくて、この感覚は何なんだろうと今もぼんやり考えています。
縁のある本を使いたかったので、祖母の謡本を頂戴して作りました。紙質、書体、文字の大きさ等々素晴らしく、この作品は謡本のおかげで成り立っていると感じています。

I heard that one of the Noh chant book pieces was purchased during our two-person exhibition, so I wanted to write again about the background of the work and some of the feelings I had while making it.
This work was originally created for “Morinotenjishitsu” (Forest Exhibition Room), an exhibition held every spring at Wildflower Forest in Wachi, Kyoto.
The theme of that year’s exhibition was “Shin.”
The word can suggest many meanings in Japanese: truth, newness, heart, core…
But I chose to focus on “shin” as in “shin-to shita,” a word used to describe deep stillness and silence.
I also chose “books” as my motif, and decided to create the work using books as the material.
(Why books feel quiet to me would become a very long story, so I’ll leave that aside for now.)
I intended to create silence,
but instead, the work became something that seemed to expose the things that had only been pretending to be quiet.
Cutting letters felt similar to cutting photographs.
As the cut characters tangled, overlapped, twisted together, and disappeared from the page, I began to feel as though I was physically manipulating letters themselves—words, language, meaning.
I wanted to understand why the sensation felt so strangely convincing to me, and even now, I still vaguely wonder what exactly that feeling was.
I wanted to use a book that held a personal connection, so I used one of my grandmother’s old Noh chant books.
The paper texture, the typeface, the scale of the characters—everything about it was beautiful, and I truly feel that this work exists because of that book.

気付けば春が来て、今年初めて、庭の木に花が咲いた。蜜を求める蜂や蝶。蝶の飛ぶ軌跡は、お香から一筋のぼる煙に似ているとよく思う。目で追いかけながら、子どもの頃捕まえた蝶の柔らかな翅を思い出す。指先に感じる翅の薄さと柔らかさに、傷付けてしまわないかという緊張と、少しでも指を擦り合わせたら…という妙な興奮を思い出す。
そんなどうしようもなく危ういものが、自然界の中で存在しているのが凄いことだなと、ふと思う。知らないところで、たくさんの翅が傷付いてるのかもしれない。
これは、蝶みたいだな、と二枚を選んで金糸で縫い合わせた。一枚一枚、蝶の翅に見えてきた。千切れた翅にも見える。花の代わりに、何処か蝶が止まれる場所を作りたくなって、この十数年実験をしては形にならなかったモノたちを引っ張り出してきた。お披露目するまでには至らなかったけど、じゅうぶんに美しいモノたち。
崩れながらも、充たされてゆく、繊細で鋭い美しさ。自分が本当に美しいと思うものを、許可することが、こんなにも自分を癒してくれることなのかと、驚く。

普段ジュエリーを作る時、湧き上がるものをまずアートピースとして作り、その後ジュエリーに落とし込むようにして制作しています。
今回は、そのアートピース(にもなりきれなかったものも含めて)をお持ちします。
過去の作品や、新しく作ったものもあります。
紙の美しさに感動し(特に雁皮紙がたまらない)、その美しさにどう応えられるか頭を抱え、自分なりの答えを見つけた時は、ちょっと泣きました(すぐ泣きます)。

先日のダイアログで、
「この素材は何ですか？」
「これ、和紙なんです」
のやりとりが200回程ありましたが、そうなんです、この素材は和紙なんです。分からないですよね。
和紙を焼いて、焼いた跡を金糸や銀糸でかがり縫いし、最後に裏側を樹脂で固めています。(表側も樹脂で固めているものもあります)
平面作品は、樹脂で固めず、そのままです。
「何で焼こうと思ったんですか？」と、好奇心ある来場者の方が多くいらっしゃったのは、ダイアログならでは。
「話長くなりますよ〜？😉」と言いつつ手短に説明させていただきました。
祖母が好きだった千代紙を花に折って、最期の贈り物を作った時、何故私は(わざわざ)花を折ったんだろうと、という疑問を感じたのが、きっかけでした。
それは、何故私はジュエリーを作るのだろう、という疑問でもありました。
その問いかけと、(暫定的な)答えを掲げるようにして、「紙を折る」ことをコンセプトにジュエリーを作り始めたのが、こちらの‘ for ’シリーズです。
紙を折って何かになる(する)、よりも、その行為に重きを置いていたので、折り目を焼いて、折った形跡を残しています。
暫くは、四つ折りにして十字に焼いていましたが、太陽に感動したことをきっかけに、紙縒りにしてから焼き始めました(この辺りからコンセプトはぶれ始めます笑)。
今では、和紙を藍染や草木染めや墨染、またアクリル絵具染めしたもの、海をイメージして作ったもの、空をイメージして作ったもの、等々キャンパスのようになりつつあります。
過程で、焼いたり洗ったりしますので、毛足の長い丈夫な黒谷和紙で作っていますが、
ダイアログでも、美しい和紙、和紙だけでなく興味深い素材・技術にたくさん出会い、創作意欲が掻き立てられました。
素晴らしい技術者や運営される皆様に敬意を感じました🙏
私も頑張んなきゃ！
