The challenge of this design Practise was to introduce a contemporary layer into Naqsh-e Jahan Square without altering its historical identity. The proposed pathway is conceived as an independent, temporary, and reversible system; a structure with no physical connection to the historic buildings and no transfer of loads to the existing structures. The ring around Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is no longer merely a circulation route, but an attempt to recreate a spatial experience; a vertical movement from darkness to light, from pause to observation. Ultimately, this project is not only about a festival or scooters; it is an attempt to re-experience Naqsh-e Jahan Square.

Is Naqsh-e Jahan Square merely a place to observe the past? How can my city become a platform for new experiences?
This was a question I asked myself some time ago, when I had taken a few friends to visit the historic monuments of Isfahan. Instead of following the usual sightseeing routine, we decided to ride electric scooters around the square.
It was an engaging experience. At the same time, I realized that when pedestrians, children, tourists, and scooter riders all occupy the same space, the risk of collisions becomes inevitable. I presented the preliminary proposal for the Isfahan Cycling Festival to the Municipality of Isfahan and the Cultural Heritage Organization, where it was met with positive feedback. The project’s design concept consists of a series of modular, temporary pathways that create a safe environment for cycling and scooter riding without intervening in the historic fabric of the square. These pathways are not merely mobility infrastructure; they become part of an urban event a collective experience that brings together historical heritage and contemporary urban life.
