Everyone meet Seb. We brought him home yesterday from He’s 1, and we think he is a Jackahuahua.

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, as we only found him earlier in the week. He was a new arrival and had come from the pound, and may have been a stray before that. He was quite shy when we met him, and the team at Dogs Trust had already thought of us before we even turned up, which made it feel really special.

We’ve had two rescues before. Wilbur, from Dogs Trust, who we lost in 2022 at age 17, and he was a dream. Then in 2007 came Freddie. We had him for 4yrs and rescued him without any history. Sadly, he had severe aggression towards people and other dogs. We tried everything, training, behaviourists, for years, but after several biting incidents we made the heartbreaking decision to have him put to sleep.

That experience really scared us, and it’s probably part of why it’s taken nearly four years to feel ready again, along with the huge renovation we’ve been through. Dogs Trust were so understanding of our history and helped guide us towards the right match, although it’s never an exact science.

So we got little Seb home yesterday, and he took to us straight away. He’s had a few accidents, and last night was tough. He doesn’t like being away from us, so even in a crate in our bedroom he was quite frightened, and he gets upset if either of us leaves his side.

There were moments last night and this morning where we thought, are we the right owners for him? He needs house training, he’s marking, and he’s clearly anxious at night. but not going to lie, the sad barks at 1am and no sleep definitely play on your emotions.

Today though, he’s settled so much. We’ve reminded ourselves he’s the one who’s scared and confused. He’s responding well to training, letting us know when he wants to go out, loves playing and snuggles, and is very food obsessed. We’re already feeling excited about the weeks ahead, and having that little creature again who thinks you’re the centre of his world.

So if you’ve got any rescue stories or encouragement, please send them my way. I know it gets better, but I won’t lie, it still feels a bit overwhelming right now.
ad/I’ve been on the go so much lately, and it’s been quite a busy few months. So making time for me on Sundays has become really important, and my Slow Sundays just feel so good for the soul, and my bedding couldn’t be any more perfect for helping me relax.

For me, Slow Sundays always revolve around my happy place: my bed. Whether that’s a lie-in, a lazy afternoon with a coffee and a good book, or fresh pyjamas, fresh sheets, and getting into bed in the evening when everything finally slows down. And having the right bedding makes the world of difference.

I’ve gone for the Crisp & Cool Organic Cotton Duvet Set in Blue Striped Ticking - not only is it beautiful, but it feels amazing too. And you know how much I love stripes, they always make a room feel pulled together, and these ones just work so nicely in here.

And for those chilly nights, I’ve got the perfect throw too, the House of Grey Organic Cotton Muslin Throw in Chamomile - the perfect contrast.

If Slow Sundays, and beautiful bedding are your thing, definitely check out the Crisp & Cool collection from #Rise&Fall

A lot of you ask what I got up to while I was away, so I thought I’d share a little bit of what New York looked like for me this time round. It wasn’t packed with lots of big plans, just seeing our favourte places, a little shopping, and plenty of cafés. Very much my kind of New York

The last few times we’ve stayed in Brooklyn, and Cobble Hill is our favourite. It’s got the best little home shops, cafés and restaurants, and the subway is so easy for hopping over to Soho or Greenwich Village.

We stayed at the this time, right in the middle of everything. If you like mid-century style, you’ll love it.

Mat and I love wandering around Cobble Hill and into Carroll Gardens. The houses are so beautiful, and it just feels a bit more “real” somehow. We had great food at Dinosaur BBQ, and really good breakfasts at Café Luluc and Breakfast by Salt’s Cure.

We’ve visited New York in May, September, December and January, and honestly there’s never a bad time, but we do love January. Hotel deals are great, and it’s the best time for sales. Macy’s had Christmas tree decorations reduced to $3, I couldn’t not.

Greenwich Village is another of our favourites, so we spent loads of time there too. Magnolia is always a must, but Bleecker Street is full of lovely shops and coffee spots. And normally I’m a “research before you wander in” person, but in Greenwich Village you can just go for it, there are so many good restaurants. We had really good Georgian food at Ubani, and then an amazing lunch at Dante.

We also did Broadway, completely last minute. We looked online in the afternoon, saw there were still tickets, and just chanced it at the box office about half an hour before the show, and we got a bargain. So if it’s not a show that’s likely to sell out, it’s always worth trying your luck on the day (rather than booking online beforehand).

We didn’t spend loads of time in Queens this time, although we’ve been to a few restaurants in Astoria before and it’s a great area. We did pop over to Queensbridge Park though, just in time for sunset, to see Mat’s favourite bridge, the Queensboro Bridge.

We had a quiet New Year’s Eve this year. And before it was over, we took some time together to reflect on 2025 - and while there were highs and lows, the house definitely was a major topic.

The end of last year marked the end of our first full year living here, (after spending the year before renovating it) and while when we moved most of the work was done, it still needed lots of finishing touches. So after we’d settled in and unpacked (for the most part), we set about storage (as we or shall I hoard too many candles, candleholders & cushions); the TV cupboards in both living rooms. And then storage in the hall, landing and the study. And we finished the porch off, and put the finishing touches to one of the guest bedrooms.

And we’ve still got some stuff we want to do this year. We need to finish off the shower room, which feels like it’s taken forever, but it’s almost there. I’ve also decided I never liked the pantry colour, so we want to repaint that. We also need to do the dressing room because we only have a few rails in there at the moment and it’s a bit of a dumping ground, And we also want some sort of bin/log store in the side courtyard, and to top it all off, lots more work in the garden, front and back.

So lots of plans, and maybe I won’t get round to them all this year and that’s ok, because most importantly, what I most want to do is be a little kinder to myself. It’s ok to have a list of things to do and really want to get them done, but I found it really hard last year to take time for me when I knew I had stuff to do, and I always ended up feeling a little guilty. So I think this year it’s so important for me to remind myself that the stuff on my list isn’t going anywhere, and it’s ok to take a day off whenever I want and just do something fun.

Loved adding a bit of colour and character to the place we now call home this year. Here’s to even more in 2026.❤️

ad-meet the latest additions to the sitting room, including the sofa of dreams from.

The sitting room has technically been finished for about a year, but it hasn’t really felt done until now. But it definitely does now - the new sofa is from Boura & White. I went for the Godfrey Minor in the most beautiful stripe from in Ornella Spice. The room is on the smaller side where the sofa sits, so having it made to measure means it fits the space perfectly.

I also added the Boura & White Saffron footstool, finished in Truffle Rowanberry, and The Perfect Chair, a swivel one, upholstered in Fellcroft fabric by

We’ve done quite a bit in here over the past year to make this a space that works for both work and study, including the bespoke shelving. And these final pieces have pulled everything together. It feels calm, considered, and very grown up in here now, and I honestly love spending time in this room.

STUDY REVEAL

This room used to be the garage, before we had it converted, and we knew it was going to be a study but other than stick a desk in there, it’s been a blank canvas for the last 12 months.

But back in October, we made a start, and had some cabinetry built for it. The prep and decorating of them felt like it took forever, and this room has been full of dust sheets and paint brush’s for weeks. But when you try to balance life, a full time job and other house bits - things do take a bit longer and I’m good with that. But it’s finally done, and I couldn’t be happier.

Just need to add some finishing touches - which I’m sure can wait till the new year (famous last words!)

Cosiest room in the house! 🎄

Had the loveliest time exploring Vienna Christmas Markets, but it’s good to be home ❤️

#cosychristmas
Ad/I’m in my happy place in the kitchen, and you could definitely say I’m getting my craft on. I’ve been working on some homemade gifts and using my Sharpie Markers to personalise chutney jars with simple labels and little fabric hats.

I practised a few lettering styles and went with something simple and classic so it’s easy to read. My Sharpie markers helped with the lot: sketching the layout, doodling holly and stars, labelling, and tracing the templates onto the fabric.

Sometimes a day of pottering is exactly what’s needed. It’s relaxing, a bit crafty, and it feels good to make something sustainable and tasty with what we’ve got at home (using apples from our tree). Save this for later if you fancy making your mark this Christmas.
