Our Terrace Restaurant guests were treated to authentic Ocha menu items, prepared by our students under the guidance of Chefs Yoshida and Rogerson. The multi-course lunch included dumplings in dashi broth, salmon sushi, salt grilled barramundi, miso soup and matcha cheesecake with black sesame creme anglaise. No one from the fully-booked session left hungry!
Running since 2006, the Guest Chef program has allowed our Hospitality students to learn from some of Australia's most talented industry leaders, including Shane Delia, Brigitte Hafner, Kirsten Tibballs, Guy Grossi, Teage Ezard and Victor Liong.
Thank you to the Ocha team for their continued support in providing our students' with these hands-on experiences.

A highlight of the week was our Boarders Birthday Cakes initiative - a project that began at MLC in 2025 and has now grown into a national movement with
We were delighted to host boarders from 10 schools, with over 150 boarders on campus. Together, they created 107 cakes to deliver to families staying at Ronald McDonald House Charities. Thank you to the support of It's the Little Things Community charity, Red Frog Foundation and Chartwells for their collaboration.
It was an evening that was a wonderful reflection of the kindness, compassion and community our boarders bring to MLC.

The 15,000km mission around the country was raising funds and awareness of the charity, which provides transport for ill children in rural Australia to access medical services. Rose has raised over $80,000, an absolutely incredible achievement.
Meanwhile during this term, our Year 3 and 4 students have been working hard on a STEM project, coding Ozobots across large-scale maps to follow Rose's journey. They made a beautiful poster for Rose, which Rose's Year 12 friends were able to take with them when she touched back down. It made several TV news reports too!
Congratulations to Rose for her inspirational journey, combining dedication, hard work and courage. Have a look at her Instagram account to see all of her travelling adventures:

Growing from an initial eight students just a few years ago, the club now has more than 40 members from Year 7 through to Year 12, making up 5 teams.
Competition season highlights include the Badger-bots ranking 5th out of 19th in the Richmond round, the Burrow-bots receiving the Engineering Excellence Award and progressing to Nationals South, and the PRISM-bots earning the Robot Performance Award. The PRISM-bots have even represented Australia at the FIRST LEGO League Asia Pacific Open Championships in Sydney last year, and was one of the few all-girl teams.
We farewelled the Year 12 members who have been key members and mentors in the club, and have been shining examples of professionalism, commitment and passion. We also thank the amazing team of teacher-coaches for their expert guidance and support!
As the younger teams prepare for the new Challenge season in the mid-year, we can't wait to see what engineering and robotic innovations are in store.

Deaf Education began in 1978 at MLC in response to the limited secondary education options available to deaf girls in Victoria at the time and was the beginning of a much more inclusive educational environment.
In response to increased enrolments of deaf and hearing-impaired students, in 1986 the College established a dedicated ‘Deaf Integration Unit’, appointed its first full time Teacher of the Deaf, and expanded support to include interpreters, notetakers, specialist teaching, and allied services.
Now known as the MLC Deaf Education Program, it follows MLC’s broader Learning Diversity approach, which supports deaf and hard of hearing students to participate fully in academic and co curricular life and to pursue successful post school pathways.
Outside of the classroom, we share in teaching Auslan through our Sign Club (Junior School), Auslan Club (Years 7-12) and even classes for staff!

The day consisted of workshops in a variety of disciplines, including Aviation & Management, Astrophysics, and Biomedical Engineering, to Fashion Design, Media & Communications and Law.
Students also navigated the campus accompanied by Swinburne Group Leaders, providing opportunity to have candid conversations about the journey towards university.
The highlight was hearing from two exceptional Old Collegian guest speakers: Bridget Ward (1991), Swinburne Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy, and Rebecca Lane (Scholes 1993), Swinburne Department Chair of Allied Health. Hearing these highly accomplished academics unpack their own career journeys provided a powerful full-circle moment. They offered profound thoughts on navigating the professional world, proving to our Year 10s just how far the foundation of an MLC education can take them.

Earlier this term, students had a go at trying many woodwind and brass instruments including trumpet, trombone, French horn and the clarinet, with plenty of funny first-try noises too!
Students then select one of their favourite instruments to form the Year 5 band and learning that instrument for the whole year, including being able to experience performing at concerts.
A wonderful opportunity for our students to step outside their comfort zone and discover new skills in a supportive environment, potentially unlocking new musical passions along the way!
