Short story:
Alcetas was a general in the army of Alexander the Great. On the dead of Alexander and the battle for succesion, he found shelter in Termessos but was hunted. Not wanting their city to be dragged into disaster the elders of the city decided to hand Alcetas over to his enemies. The youths however didn’t agree with this.
To avoid problems in the city Alcetas killed himself and was buried in a tomb under a wall in the upper city.
The reliëf and tomb are not easy to find, but it’s worth the extra walk.

İt’s worth hiking and deviating from the trail to visit the Necropolis. The well preserved Lycian sarcophagi, pillar tombs and rock tombs are tucked away admidst vegatation and olive trees.
Visit the site when you walk the West Lycian Way or on a daytrip. In autumn the light is so beautiful.
