Yesterday’s training session with Jordan was an absolute blast. We spent the morning working through some concepts that had been bouncing around in my head, and it made me realize something: as much as I enjoy teaching basic fundamentals, I also need to start pushing students who are ready for more advanced concepts—especially those driven by vision.
One of the drills had us focusing on letting our eyes dictate the pace while listening to the shots. The goal was to create a cadence that sounded almost like counting: 1, 1-2-3, 1-2-3-4. We’d draw the gun, engage a no-shoot, transition to an open target, transition to the head box, then work back to the no-shoot—1, 1-2-3, 1-2-3-4.
I’ve got to say, it was an absolute blast. I understand this is an isolation drill, but once we started applying it in a hit factor context, we were very quickly pulled back to what mattered most: our vision. The better our visual discipline became, the more everything else seemed to fall into place.
