新緑の葉山の空気の中で、作品たちものびのびと心地よさそうでした。

In this exhibition, Distant Voices, I present painting as a space for constructing ‘time’.
I paint skies, horizons, and the ordinary landscapes and objects of everyday life.
Rather than using specific narratives or symbolism, I choose universal motifs that anyone might encounter. In doing so, I aim to create an open structure into which the viewer’s own memories may enter.
My practice shifts between two approaches: a quiet pictorial space composed of restrained gradations of gray; and the building of depth through the layering of multiple colors. The former evokes a present moment devoid of movement; the latter visualizes accumulated layers of time.
Time is not represented as a subject itself, but is constructed through the layering of paint and the structuring of space.
I am not interested in expressing specific emotions, meanings or memories in my paintings. Rather, I am concerned with shaping a lingering resonance that remains within the viewer––‘afterimages’ that shift over time through their interaction with the viewer’s own experiences, gradually reconstructing their memories. I believe memory is never fixed, but continuously renewed through the accumulation of time.
“Distant Voices” refers to something arriving from the past, or perhaps a trace of emotions not yet formed into words. It does not assert itself loudly, but resonates quietly. Through this exhibition, Painting is not a completed answer, but an open field generated through an ongoing exchange between memory and time. I hope to present the time that begins after viewing—the time that continues to endure within the viewer.
