When my son was just 15 months old, we decided to take him to our local park and send him down hill on skis. He was so small but so excited, and crowds would form at the bottom of the hill to cheer him on. ⛷️❄️
Teaching kids to ski is a long road - MANY years of grinding it out and putting in the hard WORK! But wow, the pay off when you can finally ski the Alps with your kid is worth every bit of sweaty and exhausted bit of patience you had in you 🥵 When you make it to the other side, it’s magical!!!
Fun fact: I didn’t learn to ski until I was 25 years old when my husband and I started dating! It’s never too late to start, and I truly believe this is the best family sport out there.

After hundreds of flights, hotel stays, road trips, missed naps, and way too many snacks, I have learned one thing. Most of what parents are told about travelling with kids makes it harder than it needs to be.
So many families think they are bad at travel, when really they are just following bad advice.
✈️ The real myth is that family travel is supposed to look calm, curated, and Instagram perfect. In real life, it is loud, messy, emotional, and still completely worth it.

⚒️ JEUGDLAND, AMSTERDAM - Truly mind-blowing, I’ve never seen anything like it! Kids, even as young as 3, are handed real hammers, saws and nails to build forts (some are CRAZY 3-story buildings!) There’s also incredible water play areas, including a zipline, huge water obstacle course, plus cafe.
⛰️ BULLERGBERGE SPIELPLATZ, HAMBURG - The iconic giant yellow mountains are not your average city playground. It’s a massive, nature-style adventure zone with some crazy climbing hills, dirt, caves, big slides, swings, and lots of other unique equipment. There’s also a separate toddler area and a cool water play zone with pumps and water guns. Clean free bathrooms, a snack kiosk, and located right beside Planten un Blomen botanical gardens.
🛝 PARQUE DE LAS RANITAS, ISLA MUJERES, MEXICO - WOW! Who knew this tiny Mexico island would have some of the best playgrounds we visited last year. There are several of these evening-only playgrounds (open 4–10pm to avoid the heat) and they are next level: staffed, fenced in, impeccably clean, music playing, free activities for kids, and huge, brand new play equipment. Such an unexpected favourite!
🏴☠️ PRINCESS DIANA MEMORIAL PLAYGROUND - In the heart of beautiful Kensington Gardens, this sprawling enclosed playground has a massive pirate ship, sensory trail, teepees, and even a beachy sand and water play area. As of November 2025, this iconic playground is getting a major £3 million refurbishment, with plans to reopen in summer 2026 that include upgraded play features, a new accessible ship and treehouse, and refreshed water play areas.
🐸 WOESTE WESTEN, AMSTERDAM - Less of a playground per say, and more like the coolest nature experience with streams and ponds where kids use nets to catch critters, float across on rafts and pull themselves over the water on rope ferries. There are also ziplines, ropes courses, and a climbing playground. Messy, adventurous and SO much fun. In the summer, you can also roast marshmallows!

Travelling with kids hasn’t gotten easier because they’ve gotten older. At 4 and 7 years old, they’re still loud, still fight, still picky, still push boundaries.
What actually made family travel easier this year were the habits we built after years of traveling with kids. Not perfect trips. Not better behaved kids. Better systems.
We stopped planning family vacations around attractions and started planning around how kids actually move through a day. We changed how we plan, eat, get around, and even how we choose destinations.
These are the travel habits we’re taking into 2026 and the ones that have made travelling with kids feel more realistic. Let me know in the comments if any of these resonate!

If you’re flying with kids soon, here are 6 things you need to remember to do!
1️⃣ Order the kids meal at least 24 hours in ADVANCE. It’s free, but needs to be reserved prior to flying.
2️⃣ Use a travel tray to keep toys from falling
3️⃣ Unscrew the lid of the water bottle before opening - if you don’t the pressure will cause a fountain effect and the water will spray everywhere
4️⃣ Bring healthy sugar free snacks to better regulate mood and blood-sugar levels. You’re allowed to being most things on board to eat with some exceptions!
5️⃣ If you’re planing to use a NEW Yoto card on the flight, you need to remeber to download it for the first time while connected to wifi or it won’t work offline. Make sure you also download movies so you’re not relying on the entertainment system towel.
6️⃣ Ask to take a picture in the flight deck! Kindly ask the flight attendant during the flight or before landing that you’d love to get a picture in the flight deck. When existing the plane, remind the tha you’d like to do this and most of the time the pilot will allow your kids to check it out!

This was our 4th year spending Christmas abroad. This year we chose Curacao on a whim without much research and booked a last minute trip with points.
✨ Curacao has EVERYTHING! Incredible beaches, cool local restaurants, water parks, flamingos, dolphins, snorkelling with sea turtles, cactuses, caves, cliffs, children’s museums, ostrich farm, aloe vera plantation and more! And the island went all out with Christmas decor and celebrations 🎄
