Some cats thrive exploring outside safely, while others feel stressed and would much rather stay indoors.
The most important is to understand their personality and provide enrichment that works for THEM… but also for you!
I might seem easy, but harness training also takes time, patience, and consistency, so it’s important to consider whether it fits your lifestyle.
The best enrichment is the one your cat actually enjoys! ❤️
My cats love outdoor time close to home, but are not ready for bigger adventures (and they might never be).

Orrrr maybe you haven’t given them enough reasons to come when called.
If you want your cats to consistently come to you when you say their name, here’s the fix ⬇️
1️⃣ Respect their boundaries 🚫
Do you ever pick your cat up without thinking whether they want to, or do you pet them in an uncomfortable way? This can create negative associations, which we want to completely remove to build a strong trusting bond.
⭐️ Make sure to learn to read their « no » signals such as tail flicks, ears back, or walking away. If you are not sure how to interpret your cat’s body language yet, letting them lead and come to you without forcing interactions is a good place to start.
2️⃣ Reinforce positive associations
Make something good happen every time you call their name. And this is not limited to food or treats! Offering treats works great, but it can also be calling them to:
- Play
- Show them a comfy spot
- Show them an open window
- Do enrichment activities
- Any other positive experience!
Be the person who is attentive to and fulfills their needs: go open their hammock if they seem to want it, turn on a heating blanket for them, set up a window watching spot, keep them stimulated, and so on!
✨ Do these consistently and your cat will come RUNNING when you call their name!
✨ Try this and your cat will never ignore you again.

🛑 Stop repeating commands to your cat if they don’t do it immediately.
When you repeat a command, it might actually slow down your cat’s learning process. You might accidentally teach your cat that the first cue doesn’t matter, or that you will instead ask an easier command.
So they wait for the second or third cue, or for you to step in to help.
When I stopped repeating commands, I was so shocked to see that they would eventually do it even if they didn’t seem like they would. 😅
✅ I now say my commands once, and wait. As long as it takes! It gives them time to think and complete the trick on their own, while also avoiding to overwhelm them or pressuring them by insisting and repeating the command. This made a drastic difference in tricks progression for us.
This video is a perfect example of the rewarding moment when my cat completes the command, even after a minute of waiting.
So, give your cats more time than you think is necessary and they might really surprise you!

Is there a trick that you’ve been trying to teach your cat, but they can’t seem to get it right? That’s perfectly normal, and cats shouldn’t be help up to the standards of “internet cats”!
All cats learn differently and have behaviors that feel more natural for them. Having two cats has taught me that I sometimes need to teach them in different ways, and that it’s completely normal if they learn at different speeds or if their execution is different. To me, they are both perfect in their own way! 💗
Teaching tricks should be a source of enrichment for our cats and fun bonding time. No need to set unrealistically high standards! 🤯

I would consider this trick more advanced since we are chaining two elements, so this was a very fun challenge for us 😻
Here is how I taught them in 4 easy steps ⬇️
0️⃣ (if needed) Single jumps
If your cat is new to jumping tricks, spend more time on teaching single jumps to get them comfortable. Lure over your arm with a treat and reward once they go over. Start low and increase height as you go.
1️⃣Chain two passes over arm
Chain two “jumps” by luring them over your arms, and only rewarding once the two jump are completed. I started by not worrying about the height and made sure they went over my arms. The wall helped direct them over my arm instead of going on the side.
2️⃣ Increase height
I progressively increased the height to turn it into real jumps.
3️⃣ Move away from the wall
Start by keeping only one arm on the wall, and then the second one.
✨Key tips✨
⭐️ You can go back and forth with adding/removing the hand signal and removing/using the wall depending on their progress.
⭐️Give them time to think! It sometimes takes them forever to turn around for the second jump, but they end up doing it without a second prompt.
We are still not quite there yet but I’m very proud of Mike and Boris’ progress so far! 🤩

Did you know that up to 70% of domestic cats have some form of dental disease by age two? 🤯 Regular teeth brushing remains the gold standard to prevent most of these. Not only will it benefit your cat, but it can reduce the need for professional dental cleaning or expensive interventions! If teeth brushing isn’t part of your routine yet, there’s no better time to start 🙌
Here are my 5 favorite tips to get started, and even to get your cat to love it 😸
1️⃣ Find a toothpaste they love.
This will improve their experience so much as the toothpaste can basically be the reward! Mine love, we’ve tried poultry and seafood flavor and they love both!
2️⃣ Let them interact with the brush first.
If you let them lead interactions, they will become more comfortable and won’t find it as invasive.
3️⃣ Practice touching their mouth.
While they lick the brush, handle their head, mouth, and teeth. You can also practice this without the toothbrush when they are calm.
4️⃣ Start brushing slowly.
When they are comfortable with being touched inside their mouth, start brushing slowly. Keep it short, reward, and build up gradually.
5️⃣ Consult your vet at signs of pain or bleeding.
Brushing shouldn’t be painful and can help prevent diseases, but if your cat already has a dental condition, they might need professional cleaning or intervention. Check with your vet when in doubt!

To teach your cat any command, always follow these 3 easy steps:
1️⃣ Lure & reward
Use food to guide the movement. Reward after the behavior is completed so your cat learns what actually earned the treat.
2️⃣ Fade the lure
Keep the same hand signal, but deliver the reward from your other hand. This is where your cat moves away from chasing the food.
3️⃣ Add the cue
Gradually make the hand motion smaller and pair it with a word. Note that words are not necessary and you can use a simple hand gesture, so this will work with deaf cats too! Over time, the cue replaces the big gesture.
This works for almost any trick: spin, high five, roll over, jumps, and so much more!
