Just a Christmas message I would’ve posted on Instagram earlier if not for my inactivity.
Although you’ll often see me enthusiastically talking about prehistoric animals like dinosaurs, I am also quite the veteran of the Super Mario franchise, having played a portion of the games for a long time and knowing quite a lot about its lore. The villainous Koopa clan take a varying degree of inspiration from turtles, but while Koopa Troopas and Buzzy Beetles are recognisably testudine, more royal members like Bowser (named Koopa in Japan and so the namesake of the clan) and the koopalings are more unique, with a lot of un-chelonian, even un-reptilian features aside their draconic appearance. Instead of a horny beak, they share a fleshy muzzle with a variable set of teeth (canines). They are at least somewhat energetic and stand in an upright, bipedal posture. As for their shells, the carapace and plastron are usually not depicted fused (though the koopas still have the ability to hide in them like a turtle and show that off), and they even bear hair of a variety of styles. They now remind me of synapsids, a special group of prehistoric reptiles that were the ancestors of mammals, as I’ve illustrated here with Larry Koopa.

Folks, I have finally uploaded the Forbidden Archive for those who want to see my terrible old videos (that were actually popular and influential to me), almost all of them (except the most questionable), even the crappy memes. I am sorry if this took weeks to the point I'm now more obscure than ever. I originally tried creating a playlist of the unlisted videos, but they just didn't show up unlike what I was expecting. Then I had other stuff to do as well as plans of different ways to archive my old videos, such as on a blogpost, but now it actually works. Bit of a pointless merry-go-round. It is now here for you video historians. I'm not doing this for attention but I'm hoping to regrow as well with this.

In the Jurassic period, almost a hundred million years before Tyrannosaurus, the western plains of North America were terrorised by something stranger. This was Allosaurus, the “strange lizard,” one of the top predators of the Late Jurassic Earth, 150 million years ago. In its day, it was a successful carnivore, and now that I’ve finally illustrated this dinosaur, it is time we learn about it in my new blogpost. Read more about it there at the Mikailodon’s Lagoon!

On the third of November on my vacation at Tenerife, we had a dune buggy tour of Teide National Park, named after the great volcano Teide at a summit of almost four kilometres. It is a great place to stargaze, but it also feels very prehistoric, as in the Mesozoic era of the dinosaurs. There’s no grass, just pine trees and scrub in an arid ash field, and there’s an unthinkable lack of noise. The volcano makes the view all the more primordial, it’s a scene right out of the Triassic period. It has also been used as a filming location for the prehistoric documentaries Chased By Dinosaurs and Walking With Monsters.

Happy Thanksgiving to my American fellows! I rewatched Disney’s Dinosaur yesterday and it’s an underrated masterpiece of a dinosaur film. I’ve just completed my blogpost about why I love it so much (which some spoilers so be careful), and I recommend it to any dinosaur fan who hasn’t watched it yet.
As Winter and eventually Christmas head in, at school today, I’ve doodled this cute Pachyrhinosaurus playing with a snowball in his Arctic home (which was still humid compared to now). Large animals like cattle and rhinos in captivity really love playing with balls and snow in the winter. I’ll actually be drawing this northern ceratopsian in detail for the Palaeodigon soon. Those prickly quills are based on a marvellous fossil of a Psittacosaurus with bristles on its tail, though a primitive ceratopsian. Although we haven’t found other evidence beyond that yet, imagine if some later ceratopsians repurposed those bristles into keratinised quills like these, which I can imagine being used for extra defence (especially for those with less weaponised frills like the pachyrhinosaur’s), or some cool rattling communication or body language, both like a porcupine’s today. Rewatching Prehistoric Planet has really now got in the mood to draw pachyrhinosaurs.
