As we step into a new year shaped by algorithms, automation, and accelerated desire, we continue to ask what it means to remain human.
This March, we present Pixel Temple, a solo exhibition by Toyoya Li.
Working across animation, raster graphics, comics, and installation, Li transforms the pixel into a site of tension—between the human and the machine, intimacy and optimization, fantasy and control.
At first glance, his pixel worlds appear cute, flawless, and endlessly cheerful—echoing the promises of advertising, gaming culture, and digital perfection. Yet beneath the surface, something glitches. Bodies hesitate, repeat, malfunction. Exhaustion, transparency, and emotional depletion quietly emerge.
Pixel Temple explores how the 2D aesthetic—often dismissed as playful or escapist—becomes a form of resistance.
Here, the pixel is not just a unit of technology, but a wound, a breath, a protest.
In an age of AI and algorithmic governance, Li asks:
Can imperfection, slowness, and emotional opacity still survive?
