Celebrating 400 years of Jan Steen in Leiden 🎨🇳🇱
At Museum De Lakenhal, a special exhibition is being held to honor
Jan Steen, one of the most beloved painters of the Dutch Golden Age.
Before visiting the exhibition, we explored Leiden with Esther — our Dutch language teacher and a professional Leiden guide — discovering places connected to Jan Steen’s life and history.
Walking through the city before seeing the exhibition made the artworks even more meaningful and immersive.
Jan Steen’s paintings are famous for their humor, storytelling, and hidden life lessons.
His works often portray lively family scenes, daily Dutch life, and visual interpretations of proverbs that still resonate today.

During this 90-minute workshop, we introduced the essence of Japanese calligraphy and practiced the “Eiji Happo” (the eight fundamental brush strokes that form the foundation of all characters) together.
Everyone participated with remarkable focus and dedication, creating a truly inspiring atmosphere.
It was a privilege to share Japanese culture with professionals involved in education in the Netherlands.

We held three workshops on the day, and the participants folded the traditional Japanese paper crane.
In Japan, the crane has long been cherished as a symbol of longevity and good fortune.
Seeing everyone folding each crane with such care to celebrate the beginning of the new brand left a strong impression on us.
We are sincerely grateful for this valuable opportunity.

Wij hadden de eer om een origami-workshop te verzorgen voor ongeveer tweehonderd gasten ter gelegenheid van de lancering van een nieuw merk door een hotelbedrijf in Nederland.
Op de dag zelf hebben wij drie workshops gehouden, waarbij de deelnemers de traditionele Japanse kraanvogel hebben gevouwen.
In Japan wordt de kraanvogel al lange tijd gekoesterd als symbool van een lang leven en geluk.
Het was bijzonder indrukwekkend om te zien hoe iedereen met zorg elke kraanvogel vouwde ter viering van het begin van het nieuwe merk.
Wij zijn oprecht dankbaar voor deze waardevolle gelegenheid.
Wij zouden vereerd zijn als wij ook in de toekomst memorabele momenten met iedereen kunnen delen door middel van de Japanse cultuur.
