⛰️🌊 This is Michigan’s largest state park {60,000 acres!}.
🍁“The Porkies” were an autumn dream destination for us and definitely lived up to that dream!
We had ONE DAY to explore this stunning area. Here’s what we did:
1️⃣ Lake of the Clouds Overlooks~ The viewing areas are a short, easy walk from the parking lot.
2️⃣ Summit Peak Observation Tower ~ This is the highest point in “The Porkies” and offers 360° views including Lake Superior. The trail is short {1-mile total from parking lot} but steep.
3️⃣ Presque Isle River Loop Trail~ This trail is easy and just under 3 miles. There’s A LOT to see along the way! If you time it right, you can catch a sunset over Lake Superior. 🌅

I was born and raised in Brazil, moved to Michigan in 2000 and became an American citizen in 2005. When I first arrived in Michigan, I didn't know much about it but I soon fell in love with the state's natural resources, parks and culture.
I often tell my friends that Michigan is the United States’ best kept secret. We truly have it all here: beaches, woods, waterfalls, dunes, four seasons, amazing restaurants, wineries, breweries, etc.
I started my Instagram in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic as an answer to many friends asking me for tips of places in Michigan to visit with their families to social distance and unwind. The platform quickly grew to over 10K followers in less than 5 months. From there I proudly became a Michigan State Parks Ambassador and increased my reach with Latinos within the US and outside.
I’m a nature lover and some of the things I treasure the most in Michigan are our State Parks and Natural Resources. I have been to most of our best-known parks and my goal is to travel the entire state documenting each one of them to keep sharing the best of Michigan with my followers for a long time to come.
Here are some of my favorite state parks to photograph and have fun with family and friends year-round:
- Photos 1, 3 9 & 10: Bald Mountain. Some of the most rugged terrain in SE Michigan, a great place to hike, snowshoe and x-country ski.
- Photo 2: Belle Isle. Home to the oldest continually operating public aquarium in North America, the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory and much more.
- Photos 4 & 5: Palm Books. Home to Kitch-iti-kipi, Michigan's largest freshwater spring.
- Photo 6: Fayette. Nature and history in the UP. A true hidden gem.
- Photo 7: Bond Falls. Features an accessible boardwalk with six viewing points.
