Tucked along the famous Sky Road in Connemara, Ireland, is Clifden Castle. The ruins are slowly being overtaken by ivy, which you can see climbing to the highest points of the castle.
In the grand scheme of Irish castles, this one isn’t really that old. Built around 1818, it fell into disrepair just over 100 years later - not a very long-lived castle am I right?
Still, the beautiful architecture and the rolling hills make for a peaceful, quiet setting to grab some photos and imagine what life could have been like in this castle. When I arrived here, I was the only one around for the entirety of golden hour. I must say, I loved the serenity of photographing this spot at my leisure, and the light really gave me some lovely color.
If you plan to drive the Sky Road near Connemara, add this quick stop to your itinerary and feel the magic of this castle for yourself.

I love seeing the difference between my phone camera and my mirrorless (especially with the 100-400mm telephoto popped on there.) Especially with gorgeous wildlife like this barred owl, having the right tools for making an incredible image is such a win for me.
Now are there things I would change? Of course- but I hadn’t gone out to photograph owls this day, so it was a happy moment that I had everything I needed to be able to get a photo of this gorgeous Barred Owl. (How many times will I say gorgeous about her? At least this one time more.)

Which makes sense because Hozier is from Ireland too 🤔 here is the details on how to see this side of these cliffs for yourself.
This is the north side of the Cliffs of Moher. The classic view of these famous cliffs is further south and only accessible if you go into the “Cliffs of Moher Experience.” This runners of this experience have closed the access to the cliff walks from their area but the trails are open and walkable from the town of Doolin.
🚗 Staring from the parking area on the Main Street of Doolin, cross over the bridge and walk up the hill to the right. You will see clear signs for the hiking trails that wind through the fields here. (If you are looking on Google Maps, the trail I was on here is called “Burren Way”)
This isn’t a difficult hike, and I was quite surprised there weren’t more people out there, especially compared to the crowds I saw at “Cliffs of Moher Experience.” You will also get to see an epic castle along the way too, which is a HUGE win.
I was lucky to be here during golden hour and I can HIGHLY recommend watching a sunset here. Be sure to plan your trip to include this ✅

The best feeling ever (in my humble opinion) is the “out of service, in the world’s rugged places” kind of feeling. I don’t need to be stressing about emails or spreadsheets or action items - I need to be watching the birds in the cliffs and the temporary waterfall from all the rain.
I’m such a nature lover (being a landscape photographer has something to do with that) and I would rather be somewhere like the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland than just about anywhere else 😊

When I think about my favorite photos I took in Ireland, it has to be the sunset at the Cliffs of Moher.I feel so lucky and grateful to have gotten golden hour on the far side of the cliffs because, up until this point, I had mostly experienced rain in Ireland.
On brand, I know. Side note - I don’t mind the rain, and I love the drama of a cloudy sky. But it can be a bit of a bummer when every photo from a two week trip to Ireland is gray and rainy.
So when there was a chance for a clearer sky, I hiked in from Doolin praying that I would get a little color during sunset. You can see what happened yourself in 3 of the photos of this set.
Much of my time as a photographer is spent working with the weather and hoping I’ve done my planning right. When it pays off like this, it is one of the most rewarding experiences. Plus, sitting in the grass at the Cliffs of Moher during golden hour is a sure fire way to feel so happy and so alive. 10 out of 10 recommend doing this yourself if you are planning a trip to Ireland.

There is so much to say and definitely not a lot of space to say it all, but I will attempt it in this caption.
So much has happened in the last 3 weeks, I turned 30, spent a week in the US Virgin Islands (St Croix,) cohosted a huge Galentines day tea party, dropped everything and flew to Oregon for a funeral, and battled a cold 😷🌀
I worked 3 days total at my day job the entire last half of February.
Normally, the post I make about my birthday is something filled with lessons I’ve learned and places I’ve been in the last year, but I only have one thought for you that I think culminates all the madness and beauty of the last few weeks.
Life is a gift. You take the good with the bad and build what you want it to be. You can’t stop the motion of time and you cannot prevent difficulties from happening, but the same thing goes for the joys, the love, and the relationships you create in between. Reality is built upon both sides- heartache and joy. You get to have it all.
What I am learning is how to hold space for it all and move forward with building who I want to become.
While 30 is the start of a new decade, every day is the start of something new. I have had so many dreams, so many joys, so many failures, and so many experiences that I cherish in my 20s, and I have no doubt the same will be for my 30s.
I’m ready - let’s see where it goes from here 💕

I am celebrating 10 years of being a photographer this year. It doesn’t feel like that long, and, at the same time, it feels like a passion I have been pursuing my whole life. I don’t think that I could have imagined when I walked into my Intro to Photography class in 2015 that I would be where I am today. I knew I wanted an adventure, but I don’t think I knew what that would look like. Now I get to live it.
Photography has taught me so many lessons:
📸 How to see the world in a curious and excited light
📸 How to truly and deeply appreciate life
📸 How to deal with my own existential feelings
📸 What really matters to me and how my priorities follow that intention.
I am so honored to practice this art, and I am so grateful for the last 10 years. Through all of the change, photography will always be a constant in my life, and I look forward to chasing after it always.
