1. In 80โs, when Hall of Fame coach Sandy Fischer took over the OSU softball program she wasnโt paid equal to even what the menโs assistant coaches were making. 2. Coach Fischer was driven to an empty sandlot field with a backstop and no dugouts and told this is your home field 3. When Coach Fischer asked about assistant coaches she was told she could probably find a โhouse wifeโ in the neighborhood willing to volunteer. 4. The food allotment on the road covered one meal so the students often had to skip a breakfast to have enough money for a full lunch or dinner meal. LOOK at the OSU locker room today. Title IX is real. Title IX has helped to make funding of womenโs sports more equal at the college level as a well as program that receives federal funding. There is still more work to be done. Women and menโs sports can share fields of play, except softball where the dimensions are different than baseball. We need more softball fields at all levels, including for professional softball. Support programs and products that give back to support womenโs sports.
