Während meines Besuchs in der Zugspitzregion entdeckte ich den Badersee in Grainau, nur wenige Minuten von seinem bekannteren Nachbarn, dem Eibsee, entfernt.
Der Badersee ist mit 580 Metern Umfang deutlich kleiner als der Eibsee, der mit 8 Kilometern zu Bayerns größeren Bergseen zählt.
Seinen Namen erhielt er von der Familie Bader, den früheren Besitzern.
Besonders ist, dass er weder oberirdischen Zulauf noch Ablauf besitzt, sondern allein durch Grundwasserquellen gespeist wird, was ihm sein smaragdgrünes Wasser verleiht.
Beim Umrunden des Sees kam ich an einer Stelle vorbei, an der sich der Wald wie ein Tor öffnete, mit Blick auf den See und das Zugspitzmassiv.
Das brachte mich auf die Idee, ein Panorama zu machen, um die volle Weite einzufangen, die ein einzelnes Bild nicht transportiert hätte.
Der Badersee bleibt im Schatten des Eibsees, obwohl er genauso fotogen ist, ein ruhiger, versteckter Platz am Fuße des Großen Waxenstein.

During my visit to the Zugspitze region, I discovered the Badersee in Grainau, just a few minutes from its more famous neighbour, the Eibsee.
With a circumference of 580 metres, the Badersee is considerably smaller than the Eibsee, which spans 8 kilometres and ranks among Bavaria's larger mountain lakes.
It took its name from the Bader family, its former owners. Notably, it has no surface inflow or outflow, being fed entirely by underground springs, which gives it its clear, emerald green colour.
While walking around the lake, I came across a spot where the forest opened up like a gate, with a view of the lake and the Zugspitze massif.
That gave me the idea to shoot a panorama, to capture the full width a single frame could not.
The Badersee remains in the shadow of the Eibsee, even though it is just as photogenic, a quiet, hidden spot at the foot of the Großer Waxenstein.

Beim Wandern entlang des markierten Pfades im Zauberwald am Hintersee in Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden entdeckt man alle paar Meter ein neues, faszinierendes Motiv.
Der Zauberwald ist eine geologische Besonderheit, entstanden vor rund 3.500 bis 4.000 Jahren durch einen Bergsturz aus dem Blaueistal des Hochkaltermassivs.
Etwa 15 Millionen Kubikmeter Gestein stürzten über 1.000 Meter zu Tal und stauten den Klausbach zum Hintersee auf.
Heute zählt er zu den 100 schönsten Geotopen Bayerns.
Während man so durch den Wald spaziert, versteht man, warum er diesen Namen trägt.
Umgeben von hohen, moosbewachsenen Bäumen sprudelt das türkisfarbene Wasser der Ramsauer Ache über die Felsbrocken des einstigen Bergsturzes.
Neben der Wissenschaft gibt es auch eine Sage: Zwei streitlustige Riesen, einer auf dem Hochkalter, einer auf der Reiteralpe, sollen sich täglich mit Felsbrocken beworfen haben, bis daraus dieser Steinhaufen entstand.

Hiking along the marked trail through the Zauberwald near the Hintersee in Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden reveals a new, fascinating motif every few metres.
The Zauberwald is a geological rarity, formed roughly 3,500 to 4,000 years ago by a rockslide from the Blaueistal valley of the Hochkalter massif.
Around 15 million cubic metres of rock crashed over 1,000 metres into the valley and dammed the Klausbach into the Hintersee.
Today it ranks among Bavaria’s 100 most beautiful geotopes.
Walking through this forest, you quickly understand why it carries this name.
Surrounded by tall, moss covered trees, the turquoise water of the Ramsauer Ache flows over the boulders left behind by that ancient rockslide.
Alongside the science, there is also a legend: two quarrelsome giants, one on the Hochkalter, the other on the Reiteralpe, are said to have thrown boulders at each other daily until this pile of rock was formed.

Wie am Freitag im Spitzberg Beitrag angekündigt, hier nun das zweite Bild aus dieser Region.
Das Gross Leckihorn mit seinen 3.068 Metern trug an diesem Tag bereits den ersten Neuschnee, während unterhalb noch die volle Farbenpracht des Herbstes leuchtete.
Der Gipfel liegt im westlichen Teil des Gotthardmassivs, rund 5,5 Kilometer südöstlich des Furkapasses und markiert zugleich die Grenze zwischen den Kantonen Uri und Wallis.
Der Blick fiel von unserem Standort hinunter ins Tal mit seinen ockerfarbenen und rostroten Hängen, während sich über dem Gipfel bereits die ersten Schneewolken sammelten.
Oben lag schon der erste Schnee, unten leuchtete noch der Herbst.
Einen Tag später wurde der Furkapass wegen starken Schneefalls tatsächlich gesperrt, der Winter hatte endgültig Einzug gehalten.

As announced in my Spitzberg post on Friday, here is the second image from this region. The Gross Leckihorn, standing 3,068 metres tall, already carried the first fresh snow that day, while the valley below still glowed in the full colours of autumn.
The summit sits in the western part of the Gotthard massif, roughly 5.5 kilometres southeast of the Furka Pass, and forms the border between the cantons of Uri and Valais.
The view opened down into the valley with its ochre and rust coloured slopes, while the first snow clouds were already gathering above the peak.
Snow up top, autumn colours still holding on below.
The very next day the Furka Pass closed due to heavy snowfall, winter had truly arrived.

Der Lago d´Antorno liegt auf rund 1.890 Metern an den Ausläufern der Cadini di Misurina, direkt an der Panoramastraße zu den Drei Zinnen.
Ursprünglich wollte ich nur den Sonnenuntergang einfangen, wenn die letzten Lichtstrahlen die Zinnen zum Glühen bringen.
Doch der Himmel blieb klar, das Wetter spielte so gut mit, dass mir die Idee zur Milchstraße kam.
Vielleicht ließe sich sogar eine Spiegelung einfangen.
Die Bedingungen passten perfekt, die Milchstraße ging exakt über den Zinnen auf.
Später fiel mir auf, dass aus der Spiegelung nichts werden würde, da das Licht eines nahen Gebäudes den Vordergrund zu stark aufhellte.
Beim Belichten des Himmels kämpfte ich zudem mit Lensflares von vorbeifahrenden Autos.
Trotz aller Widrigkeiten bin ich mit dem Ergebnis sehr zufrieden.
Es entstand ein Foto vom Lago d´Antorno, wie ich es vorher so noch nicht gesehen habe.

Lago d´Antorno sits at around 1,890 metres in the foothills of the Cadini di Misurina, right along the panoramic road to Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
My original plan was only to capture the sunset as the last light set the towers aglow.
But the sky stayed clear, the weather cooperated so well that the idea of the Milky Way came to me, my star tracker was in the trunk anyway.
Maybe I could even capture a reflection.
The conditions turned out perfect, the Milky Way rose exactly above the towers.
I noticed later that the reflection would not work out, since light from a nearby building lit up the foreground too strongly.
Exposing the sky, I also struggled with lens flares from passing cars.
Despite all the obstacles, I am very happy with the result.
What came out is a photo of Lago d´Antorno unlike anything I had seen before.

An diesem Tag stand der Aletschgletscher auf unserer Liste, und wir wanderten das gesamte Areal ab, um die schönsten Perspektiven auf den größten Gletscher der Alpen zu finden.
Am Ende kehrten wir wieder zum Ausgangspunkt unserer Tour zurück, zur Moosfluh auf 2.333 Metern.
Er gehört zu den vier offiziellen View Points der Aletsch Arena und bietet einen der bekanntesten und meistfotografierten Blicke auf den fast 23 Kilometer langen Aletschgletscher, den größten und längsten Gletscher der gesamten Alpen, aus gutem Grund.
Für uns war es definitiv der schönste und fotogenste Punkt der gesamten Tour.
Nachdem die letzte Gondel ins Tal abgefahren war, kehrte langsam Ruhe ein, und wir hatten diesen Ausblick beim Warten auf den Sonnenuntergang ganz für uns allein.
Atmosphärisch ist diese Region mehr als beeindruckend, fotografisch ein absoluter Leckerbissen.
Im richtigen Licht wirkt hier alles überwältigend schön.

That day the Aletsch Glacier was on our list, and we hiked across the entire area to find the most beautiful perspectives on the largest glacier in the Alps.
In the end we returned to the starting point of our tour, to the Moosfluh at 2,333 metres.
It is one of the four official view points of the Aletsch Arena and offers one of the most well known and most photographed views of the nearly 23 kilometre long Aletsch Glacier, the largest and longest glacier in the entire Alps, for good reason.
For us, it was definitely the most beautiful and photogenic spot of the entire day.
Once the last gondola had left for the valley, calm slowly settled in, and we had this view all to ourselves while waiting for the sunset.
Atmospherically, this region is more than impressive, photographically an absolute treat.
In the right light, everything here feels overwhelmingly beautiful.

Dieses Foto entstand im Areal rund um den Rhonegletscher, nahe dem Furkapass auf 2.429 Metern, direkt an der Grenze zwischen den Kantonen Uri und Wallis.
Von dort hatten wir einen spektakulären Blick ins Tal, über dem sich in diesem Moment ein Unwetter zusammenbraute.
Zuvor waren wir am Grimselpass unterwegs.
Der Rhonegletscher selbst ist der größte Gletscher der Urner Alpen und die Quelle der Rhone.
Vom Furkapass aus führt ein markierter Wanderweg direkt zu einem Aussichtspunkt oberhalb des Gletschers, wo genau dieses Bild entstand.
So durfte ich diesen Ort gleich zweimal auf völlig unterschiedliche Weise erleben, ein paar Tage zuvor bei einem Sonnenuntergang im goldenen Licht, nun bei düsteren, atmosphärischen Bedingungen mit Lichtstrahlen, die sich durch die Wolken kämpften.
Ich bin sehr froh, diese Entscheidung getroffen zu haben, auf dem Heimweg noch einmal diesen kurzen Umweg zu machen.

This photo was taken in the area around the Rhône Glacier, near the Furka Pass at 2,429 metres, right on the border between the cantons of Uri and Valais.
From up there, we had a spectacular view down into the valley, with a storm brewing right above it.
We had been exploring the Grimsel Pass earlier that day.
The Rhône Glacier itself is the largest glacier in the Urner Alps and the source of the Rhône river.
A marked trail leads from the Furka Pass directly to a viewpoint above the glacier, exactly where this shot was taken.
This meant I got to experience this place twice, in two completely different ways, a few days earlier during a golden sunset, and now under dark, atmospheric conditions with rays of light breaking through the clouds.
I am very glad I made the decision to take that short detour on the way home.

An einem farbenfrohen Abend zur goldenen Stunde entstand dieses Foto am Passo Giau in den Dolomiten, aufgenommen mit dem Teleobjektiv, während sich dichte Wolken über den Gipfeln zusammenzogen.
Der Passo Giau liegt auf 2.236 Metern zwischen Cortina d'Ampezzo und Colle Santa Lucia und gilt als einer der spektakulärsten Pässe der Dolomiten, bekannt vor allem für seine Sonnenauf- und Sonnenuntergänge, bei denen das letzte Licht des Tages die umliegenden Gipfel in ein rosiges Glühen taucht.
Genau solche Momente möchte ich mit dem Teleobjektiv einfangen: wie sich einzelne Lichtstrahlen ihren Weg durch die Wolken bahnen und für wenige Minuten einzelne Felsflanken golden aufleuchten lassen, während der Rest der Szene im Schatten und Nebel verschwindet.
Diese Art von Licht lässt sich nicht planen, man kann nur zur richtigen Zeit am richtigen Ort stehen, die Kamera bereithalten und hoffen, dass der Himmel mitspielt.

This photo was taken on a colourful evening during golden hour at the Passo Giau in the Dolomites, captured with a telephoto lens as dense clouds gathered above the peaks.
The Passo Giau sits at 2,236 metres between Cortina d'Ampezzo and Colle Santa Lucia and is considered one of the most spectacular passes in the Dolomites, especially known for its sunrises and sunsets, when the last light of the day bathes the surrounding peaks in a rosy glow.
These are exactly the kind of moments I want to capture with the telephoto lens, the way individual rays of light break through the clouds and light up single rock faces in gold for just a few minutes, while the rest of the scene disappears into shadow and mist.
This kind of light cannot be planned, you can only be in the right place at the right time, keep the camera ready, and hope the sky cooperates.

Partnach Gorge. A cloudy, rainy day... As we were in the area, we decided to visit the Partnach Gorge. We had just entered the gorge route when it suddenly started to rain extremely. Now it was only possible in one direction and we had to walk through the rain for better or for worse. Luckily I had my rain cover for the camera with me. Without it, photography would not have been possible. In the end I had a few atmospheric photos on the memory card, the water was in our shoes and we were wet to the skin. A trip that I will not soon forget.

Als ich begann, mein Equipment zu verstauen, erschien plötzlich ein Lichtpunkt über der linken Bergspitze.
Der Punkt wuchs rasch und bald wurde klar: Es war der Mond, der sich in erstaunlicher Geschwindigkeit über den Berg schob und die Landschaft in ein magisches Licht tauchte.

As I began packing up my equipment, a light suddenly appeared over the left mountain peak.
The point quickly grew, and it soon became clear: it was the moon, moving at an astonishing speed over the mountain and casting the landscape in a magical light.
