As an athlete with very strict parents lol, there were no parties, no sneaking out, just school and training.
Did I feel like I missed out back then? I did.
But looking back now, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I learned so much both on and off the mat. I met people I would’ve never met otherwise and saw things and places most 16 year olds would never get the opportunity to see.
I’m very grateful. Might not have had the true 2016 experience, but I liked my version better 😉

Everyone gets caught up in the new year, new me energy. The “I’m doing this, this, this, and this” mindset. And honestly… it’s so easy to spiral into that pressure.
So I’ve decided i’m pulling back.
I’m organizing my thoughts, my goals, and setting realistic, attainable ones. Micro-goals. Like shifting my wake-up time by 10 minutes instead of forcing some dramatic 5 a.m. routine overnight.
Also… unless you genuinely need to, why are we all waking up at 5 a.m.? 😂 Your body needs sleep!
And this is coming from someone who’s been an extremely routine-oriented athlete for over 10 years. Even athletes don’t stay in go-mode forever. We cycle. We push hard when it’s time to perform, then we pull back, reset, and recover.
That’s where I’m at.
So let’s go into 2026 with a balanced mentality. Sustainable. Intentional. Without the burnout.
