I swear, some days I feel like a superhuman on the pole and others I feel like a summer sow. Just slap a blue ribbon on me and send me to the county fair because I’m gibungo and my bones are made of lead. 🐖 🎀
On the real though it’s so tough to pole right before your period. Us women are amazing and I’m trying to give myself grace - it’s normal to not always be in top form! It ebbs and flows. Happens to us all.

Today, after nearly three years of work, I’ve completed my first novel.
I don’t talk much about my writing over Instagram. I know that most people started following for my pole, not for my captions. But, as much as I love pole, I’ve loved writing even more. We’ve had a deep, lifelong bond, and so much of myself was discovered through my connection to words.
As soon as I could write, I began storytelling. I remember writing story after story when I was five, romance stories, horror stories, fantasy stories, dystopian stories before I even understood what that genre was. I wrote voraciously. I was bursting at the seams with stories.
In college, I experienced a huge writing growth-spurt. I sharpened my style under the mentorship of some incredibly talented writers. I realized, uncomfortably, that I wasn’t the best in every room. I learned humility and temperance, sometimes against my will.
There were long bouts of not-writing as I grew older. But I knew my need to write would never truly go away. It was always there for me to discover again, as many times as was necessary.
The original draft of this novel was written when I was only fifteen years old. I wrote about fifty pages and then stopped suddenly. At the time, I didn’t know why I stopped. But, now, I know it was because I wasn’t ready to tell this particular story. It would have to wait seventeen more years. But, the whole while, it was forming inside of me, shaped by great joy and great suffering that only comes with growing up.
I can’t even begin to guess how many hours I’ve spent with my laptop, alone in my living room, basements during family parties, hotels, secluded cabins in the mountains, apartments across the world, writing this book. Hundreds. Maybe thousands. A creation process that has traversed the globe.
To finish it is such a strange feeling. It’s surreal to create, full stop. Making something from nothing.
Now time to navigate the foreign waters of publishing. Finally. And work on Book 2.
