We all know a punch list matters at the END of a project, but I now keep a live punch list tracker running throughout the ENTIRE construction process for 2 huge reasons.
1) On large renovations, little details come up constantly while construction is actively moving. Maybe I notice a chipped tile during installation. Maybe the client requests a paint touch-up or notices something that needs adjusting. Without a system, those little conversations can easily get lost while the project keeps chugging along and new phases begin. And there is nothing worse than scrolling through texts to find those comments - process for everything and everything written down!!!
2) It gives clients visible reassurance that their concerns are being heard and addressed. They can clearly see what’s been relayed to the contractor, what’s in progress, and what still needs attention so they’re not left wondering if something was forgotten.
Instead of relying on memory, random texts, or trying to circle back weeks later, everything lives in one organized place the entire team can reference throughout construction.
All in all, it keeps the entire project more organized, efficient, and accountable. Clients feel confident knowing the details they care about are not slipping through the cracks, and contractors appreciate it because it helps them clearly track outstanding items and coordinate scheduling for punch work more efficiently.
