PROJECT SPOTLIGHT - LITTLE OG
25th Australian Timber Design Awards
Interior Fitout - Residential | Australian Certified Timber
On a compact 110m² site in Albert Park, mcmahon and nerlich transformed a south-facing Victorian cottage into a timber sanctuary where indoor and outdoor worlds dissolve into one. At the heart of Little OG is a central courtyard defined by bespoke Vic Ash sliding doors that stack completely out of sight - unlocking natural light deep into the plan and merging living spaces into one generous, sunlit volume.
Exposed timber structure creates a parallax effect throughout, visually extending the use of timber across floors, joinery and ceiling. PEFC-certified Woodcut engineered flooring in honeyed "Calluna" tones flows seamlessly from interior to Blackbutt decking, while Evenex deep grain oak panels on feature joinery and limed plywood ceilings complete a holistic timber palette.
All structural and finishing timbers were specified as FSC or PEFC certified and Australian-sourced - no substitutions permitted.
Since its ATDA, Little OG has received a City of Port Phillip Design Awards Commendation (2024) and was shortlisted for the IDEA Awards (2024).

Little OG by is a tiny south-facing heritage cottage in a mews-like laneway, transformed by a raking Barestone-clad box and a new internal courtyard that floods the home with natural light it had no right to expect. Sliding and stacking doors dissolve the boundary between inside and out. Exposed timber ceiling structure introduces a parallax effect that adds depth without adding volume. Less is more, built precisely.

A textural moody material palette and modest detailing is key - allowing the focus to fall on the amazingly verdant secret garden with tropical vibes. Clever incisions allow natural light and improved spatial flow to the heart of the home.
