As we celebrate Autism Awareness Month this April, I want to share my journey as a model diagnosed with autism. For years, I struggled with anxiety and depression, feeling like something was still "off." But seeking an evaluation recently and being confirmed as autistic put so many pieces of the puzzle together for me.
Modeling is a dream come true, but it comes with its own set of challenges - especially for those of us with sensory issues. Sounds, clothing, and being touched repeatedly for hair and makeup can be overwhelming and exhausting. I know that I have been misunderstood at times as my diagnosis might have spoken louder, but, I'm proud to represent those with autism in the fashion industry and beyond and break down stereotypes.
We need to continue advocating for accessible and inclusive spaces for all individuals, including those with disabilities. By speaking out about my experiences, I hope to inspire others to embrace their own unique qualities and promote greater understanding and acceptance.
