It was my very good honour to receive an invitation from to their winter feast at the majestic - and a wonderful evening it was.

The Thegns are a living history group who have incredible knowledge and passion for the early medieval period. I was gobsmacked by the skill and artistry of these men and women who have created these sensational replicas of medieval clothes, weapons and artefacts. These are real artists.

Studying, discovering and utilising traditional and ancient methods and materials they meticulously bring the history of our country to life, the hard way, presenting a vibrant and meaningful collection. Preserving and resurrecting ancient crafts, this is both education and joy. As an ex-theatrical armourer (who basically just cheated for camera) maximum respect to them - this is the real deal 🤩

One of many highlights was the revealing of their latest creation - a replica of a beaten copper hanging bowl, complete with ornate enamelled bosses and bronze cast fittings. It’s just incredible to see these objects as the Saxons would have seen them, new and in use, brining life back into museum relics (that often only hint at previous glory).

Hats off to this dedicated band who put on such a delicious visual and culinary feast. For one night I was transported back to the halls of my ancestors and I loved it 😍

Installing Peace Machine #2 at the Minories Gallery in Colchester.

It is a vending machine I created to raise money for charity. Designed to resemble a mortar bomb, it dispenses plaster casts of bullets and shrapnel from the war in Ukraine, which I brought back with me 🇺🇦

I was invited to give a talk on provocative art at the university in Lviv where I met a woman whose brother had been wounded in the fighting. This provocative artwork was the result.

Located in the heart of the building by the stairs it will be seen by everyone which is wonderful. Funds collected will benefit RAMA - Refugee, Asylum & Migrant Action

This is the only place you can buy an artwork by me for only £2 - collect all three casts and benefit a great cause 🤩

I’ve been busy this week prepping work for artist submissions to exhibit at The Minories Gallery

The theme being “Better Together”, I’ve entered a pair of flags from the new Bra Spangled Banner series made by scanning hundreds of volunteers in their underwear. Putting some female energy into the flag! 🏳️‍🌈

Previously on show at the Los Angeles photo fair to test the water, I’ve not shown these for a few years while I made changes to the images, sizes, print method, photo paper, framing etc to produce this definitive series.

Created using a document scanner to photograph hundreds of volunteer models in their underwear over the last 15 years. They look like photos and kinda not at the same time.

I like to play with that tension between the familiar and unfamiliar. Between the visuals and the social politics. Between salaciousness and purpose. Any sales will benefit cancer charities. This one is for

The process, known as scanography, is recognised by the Victoria & Albert Museum as one of the latest photographic processes of note.

As you can see, besides making the art there’s a whole load of decisions and work involved it getting it ready to display. So what do you think, did I get it right? 🫣

Wish me luck! 🍀

I’m still scanning people of all shapes, sizes and skin tones. I need you (and your undies) and loads more colours to make new flags. DM me to volunteer 😊👍🏻 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇮🇪 🇧🇷 🇲🇽 🏳️‍🌈

SEND ME SAND!

The Sands of Time is a project I have been slowly progressing for many years.

I need YOUR help to finish it and achieve the impossible - getting some from everywhere in the world. Not just every country but different parts of some countries too, states, islands etc.

There’s some beautiful sand out there from twinkling, ground up shells to black, volcanic grit. I’ll even take some moon dust if you have it. If your country has no sand, send a stone, I’ll make the sand!

With it all I will make a series of very
impactful sculptures about saving the planet from us and for us. I can’t say more for the now.

Please send me a sandwich bag, jam jar or plastic bottle full of sand from your country...

I need your help for three reasons: 1) I could never get to every country in the world. 2) If I did the environmental cost just to make an artwork would be stupid. 3) I probably don’t speak your language but you might speak mine and maybe you can ask someone back home to send some…

Please msg me to check I don’t have your country yet and to get instructions where to send it, how I can refund your postage, **AND how to sterilise the sand first for bio security**

I hoped to post an interactive list of countries I have and need on the website but I lack the HTML skills. Anyone?!

Many of my projects require the collaboration of hundreds of strangers. It’s a beautiful way of working and it connects me to people in unknown ways. Please feel free to share this post to anybody you think might be interested.

The Great Wall project took me five years with the help of 400 volunteer models and countless
studio assistants. They are the real heroes and they should be totally proud, given the impact and reach of that artwork.

See Works in Development in my bio for more info…

It would be amazing to finally realise this project with your help. THANK YOU 😍🙏🏻👍🏻

My latest commission for a lovely couple in the USA. A sculpture of her for his birthday. That’s so romantic! 🥰 Now finished and crated to be shipped 🇺🇸

The spiralling twist wrapping around the surface of the body is my unique style of design. I’ve used variations on several pieces now. It accentuates the favourite features and creates movement and vibrancy via the flow. Your eye follows the twists and curves of the body shapes, inside and out.

Carved in Italian marble over the last 3 months, this material is the perfect choice for these sculptures. The light reflecting from the surface is beautiful as is the translucency with light passing through the inch thick ribbon of stone. It’s sensational 😍

Fusing traditional low tech with contemporary high tech I used various techniques to capture the original form of her body. This ‘master cast’, made in resin, was used as the pattern from which the sculpture was methodically hand carved.

The same resin pattern could have been used as the basis from a bronze cast or carved wood or many other exotic options but I’m so glad they chose marble.

To avoid undue stress on the stone, the outside had to be virtually complete before hollowing out began, which was a nerve-racking process. The final touches created the honed interior surface and the contrasting smooth skin surface on the outside.

I work with clients all over the world so distance from my UK studio is no problem 👍🏻 Tell me your ideas, however crazy. I love a challenge! 😊
