There are places where the sea does not speak loudly. It only keeps the traces of those who came before dawn, worked with patience, and left their fragile signs upon the water. The fishing structures remain almost weightless - as if drawn by hand between the horizon and silence. Nothing moves, yet everything seems to remember: the wind, the tide, the waiting, and the old rhythm of the sea. This is not only a seascape. It is a quiet testimony of human presence - small, temporary, and humble before the vastness of water and time.

There are places where the landscape does not speak - it holds its breath. The water becomes almost still, the sky slowly descends toward the horizon, and everything unnecessary disappears, leaving only a thin line, an old wooden structure and the feeling of time that has stopped rushing. This photograph was made in the Po Delta, among old fishing structures, calm water and soft light after the rain. There is no direct sun, no harsh contrast, no dramatic gesture. Only line, rhythm of the poles, air, water and silence. Large format and analog film allow the landscape to reveal itself slowly. This image does not simply record a place - it preserves a state. That rare moment when nature is no longer a spectacle, but memory. A line on the water. A restrained sky. An old structure. And the silence left after the rain.

I waited a long time for this weather - that rare interval between rain and clear sky, when the light becomes soft, the water grows calm and the horizon begins to dissolve. Today I am shooting large format 8×10 in the area of the Parco Regionale Veneto del Delta del Po. There is no unnecessary movement here, no direct sun, no dramatic contrast. Only silence, still water, old fishing structures and a soft cloudy sky. I want to create a minimalist, calm and classical image - built on line, tone and waiting. One day of shooting. One sheet of film. One hour of exposure. One moment between rain and light.

The mountains remain in their place. The forest holds the slope. The lake lies between the shores, like a long memory. It seems that nothing can happen. Only time changes. But at a certain moment, when the camera is already set, the composition chosen, and the silence of waiting becomes almost motionless, nature suddenly begins its own performance. First comes a light drizzle. Then the rain grows stronger and turns into a downpour. The air between the camera and the mountains becomes denser, softer, almost tangible. The lake is touched by a slight trembling. Then the wind drives the rain away and creates a rainbow suspended above the water. After that, a fine drizzle returns and covers everything once again. And just as unpredictably as it began, the rain comes to an end. The air becomes clearer. And this silent theatrical performance seems to close with an intermission. This is the unusual beauty of large format and film. It does not capture a moment. It accepts everything that happens during the waiting.

Sometimes a photograph does not appear immediately.
It needs time, patience, and silence.
One hour of exposure in front of the lake.
At first, a light rain arrived, almost like a thin mist.
Then the rain became stronger, denser, changing the air between the camera and the mountains.
The storm gave way to the wind.
And then, above the water, a rainbow appeared.
I do not know if all this will truly help the image.
I do not know what trace will remain on the sheet of film.
But there are moments when photography seems to ask for only one thing: trust.
To wait.
To let time work.
To accept uncertainty.
And only later to discover whether the light has decided to remain on the negative.
One hour on the shore.
One hour of development.
Two hours on the road home.
And only then, finally, the answer.

For years, I have returned here with Phase One and Linhof.
It was, and still remains, a beautiful combination.
Now, perhaps, the time has come for the Arca Swiss Monolith 8x10 to make its own acquaintance with Passo Sella and the Sassolungo massif.
The Alps are not, I suppose, the most expected place for such a camera.
One would imagine it in a studio, on a level floor, under quiet and obedient light.
And yet, for me, it was always meant for the mountains.
Above two thousand metres, light behaves differently.
The sun does not merely illuminate the surface - it cuts into the stone, separates the planes, and makes each ray feel almost physical.
This weekend was unusually hot for May.
The temperature rose to almost 30 degrees, while lower down, around Ortisei, it felt close to 40.
From the valley below, warm air was rising along the mountain slopes toward the peaks, creating soft swirls and occasional gusts.
It could be felt.
But a monolith is a monolith.
The camera did not move.
Perhaps this is exactly how it should be.
The weight of several lenses in the backpack.
Twenty-seven kilograms on my back.
This, too, is something one has to learn.
It was interesting.

That evening, two cameras were working side by side, built on entirely different principles. On one side was the Linhof Techno, a technical camera paired with the Phase One IQ4 150MP digital back and the Carl Zeiss Planar 1:2.8 f=100mm lens. One exposure lasted 40 minutes. The setup itself, positioning the camera, composing the image, focusing and adjusting the movements, took approximately 15 minutes per frame.Next to it was the Arca-Swiss Monolith 8×10 with the Schneider-Kreuznach Apo-Symmar 300mm f/5.6 L-72° MC lens. Only two frames were made. In this case, the exposure itself was short, but the preparation for each frame took around 20-25 minutes. Working with large format, the ground glass, the film holder, precise geometry and camera movements requires a different rhythm and greater physical involvement. The difference is felt immediately. The Arca-Swiss Monolith 8×10 setup, with lens, tripod and ARCA-SWISS C1 Cube head, weighs around 12-13 kg. The Linhof Techno + Phase One IQ4 150MP system, with the ARCA-SWISS D4 head and Gitzo Mountaineer tripod, is almost twice as light and noticeably more mobile. Both cameras demand respect and concentration. The Linhof Techno with the Phase One IQ4 150MP offers digital precision, mobility and a very high level of control. The Arca-Swiss Monolith 8×10 brings the act of photographing into a slower, almost architectural state, where each frame becomes a carefully constructed object.Let us see the result.

In quel momento l’acqua era ancora forza - movimento continuo, peso, pressione.
In that moment, the water was still force - continuous movement, weight, pressure. But the duration of the gaze transformed its nature. Everything accidental disappeared: the noise, the fragmentation, the outward turbulence. What remained was only the pale course of water against the dark, almost immutable mass of stone. Thus the flow lost the event and acquired form. And the stone, preserving its stillness, was no longer a background, but a measure of silence.

Nell’immagine resta soltanto l’essenziale: pietra, acqua e luce.
Forty minutes before the Ru de Rialt waterfall.
The weather is calm, the light is soft, and the frame is clearly visible.
But the waterfall creates its own wind: fine drops travel toward the camera and slowly settle on the filter.
During such a long exposure, the glass has to be cleaned from time to time with extreme care — delicately, without the slightest movement of the camera, so the frame remains exactly where it belongs.
The long exposure accepts these small interventions and dissolves everything unnecessary.
Only the essential remains in the image: stone, water and light.
