Thinking back, it was a turning point and here's why!
I was on maternity leave with my second daughter, and right before I was supposed to return to work, I was laid off from my longโstanding corporate job where I had thrived for 10+ years!
I still think they were jerks, but honestly, that moment became the start of something new. Later that year, I auditioned and landed the TV host gig for ๐
Maryโs Happy Belly (MHB) officially started in 2014, but 2016 was eventful. Every experience that year was meaningful โ and so have the last ten, especially meeting an incredible food and travel community.

We did most of our big renos a few years back โ kitchen, fireplace mantel, the works โ so now weโre slowing down and taking on one small project at a time.

We had an awkward little space beside our coffee bar and the back door. With multiple coffee machines (Nespresso + espresso), everything sat on a short brown table that didnโt match the coffee bar at all.
The wall above it was also completely empty, and we didnโt want to add more storage units.
๐AFTER:
Instead of getting another custom cabinet made, we went with the KALLAX Shelf and added drawer inserts, a wine insert, and a glass door โ all for under $200 taxโin.
It gives the space so much more continuity, and now I can display my tea cups and wine bottles.
Above it, we waited for a sale and picked up the Kelin Round Wall Shelf from for $200.
We styled it with a few of their decor pieces (the glass birds are my favourite!) plus some meaningful gifts weโve received over the years.

TV segments are a lot of work and it takes time to develop recipes, prep the food, let alone figure out what to wear. I was still debating what to wear at 8pm the night before! ๐
It really takes a team to make the day happen. My husband had to take the day off to watch the kids, my mom had to come to the studio early to help me out, and I have a demanding FT corporate job. One of the reasons why I can only handle 1 a year for now.
The producers, stylist, makeup artist at the are top notch and I am truly thankful to be part of their day.
