One of the wonderful things about serving as Canada’s Trade Minister is the opportunity to work with terrific colleagues from around the world and to build relationships that endure beyond office.
I wish Minister success as he advances the important work toward a Canada–India CEPA, creating new opportunities for businesses, workers, and investors in both countries.
As Prime Minister recently said, stronger Canada–India economic ties can help “unlock enormous opportunity” for both countries.
And thank you,, for the thoughtful gift…I look forward to enjoying this wonderful Indian single malt 🇮🇳🥃
As Senior Fellow of the Milken Institute, I am thrilled to be part of those conversations at the Global Conference this week.
For nearly three decades, Milken has convened some of the world’s most forward-thinking leaders — not just to talk about the future, but to help build it. From finance and technology to health, trade, energy, and philanthropy, this is where ideas, capital, and leadership come together to move from discussion to deployment.
This year’s theme — Leading in a New Era — feels especially relevant right now.
And the speaker lineup is remarkable: global CEOs, investors, policymakers, innovators, and builders — people shaping the future of growth, technology, sustainability, and global cooperation.
The future doesn’t happen by accident. It is shaped by the people willing to lead through change.

In a more fragmented world, certainty does not come automatically. It is built through partnerships, agreements, and the people you choose to work with.
But growth alone is not enough. The real challenge is making sure more people and businesses are part of it. Because a stronger economy is not just connected, but also inclusive.

These distinguished diplomats participate in high-level discussions on the most pressing issues shaping our region — from economic competitiveness to workforce development and cross-border cooperation in an increasingly complex global landscape.
Thank you to Enrique Perret for the invitation, my fellow Senior Fellow, whose leadership at the continues to bring together perspectives that matter.
It was terrific to reconnect with my counterpart, Mexico’s former Secretary of Economía, Ildefonso Guajardo.
Always special to see former Canadian ambassadors to Mexico, whose service reflects a deep commitment to advancing this critical relationship.
Thank you to the #weiserdiplomacycenter Center at the University of Michigan — Ambassador Susan D. Page — for advancing policy engagement and education.
Thank you to The Dialogue — Lila Abed — for strengthening hemispheric leadership and collaboration.
An excellent dialogue bringing together the private sector, government and civil society on strengthening the Canada–Philippines partnership and advancing economic security in the Indo-Pacific. We focused on three areas where we can cooperate and partner:
• Digital resilience and trusted technology
• Critical minerals and clean-tech supply chains
• Defence industrial cooperation
We already have a strong foundation. I reflected on the Team Canada Trade Mission I led to the Philippines in December 2024, with 300+ Canadian business leaders looking to the Philippines’ more than 115-million-person market, one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing economies.
That momentum continues today — with direct flights between our countries, negotiations toward a Canada–Philippines Free Trade Agreement, and strong people-to-people ties connecting our two nations.
And thank you to Canada’s Ambassador to the Philippines, David Hartman, whose leadership continues to strengthen the friendship and partnership between Canada and the Philippines.
Cesar has long been a thoughtful voice on economic growth and regional cooperation in Southeast Asia. A global business executive himself, our conversation touched on the important role Milken’s Asia Summit and Global Conference play in bringing together investors, policymakers, and business leaders to drive real investment and economic outcomes.
These convenings matter, especially at a time when global capital, trade, and growth opportunities are increasingly interconnected.
You have a standing invitation to Toronto and Canada, my friend 🇨🇦
I received this message from a high school teacher in our community, and it truly meant a lot to me!
To know that students in Markham–Thornhill classrooms are stepping into leadership roles and imagining themselves in public service is incredibly meaningful.
Representation matters.
When young people can see themselves reflected in leadership, it opens the door to what they believe is possible.
Thank you to the teachers who bring civics to life in the classroom — and to the students who are already practicing democracy. 🇨🇦
✅ Food! Street food, home-cooked food, fancy food… and most special of all, taking my mom out for very yummy food.
✅ Connecting with awesome Canadians along the way.
✅ A visit to the temple.
✅ Learning mahjong (finally!).
✅ Keeping up the steps and workouts.
✅ And the simple joy of strolling around the city with absolutely no schedule.
See you next time.
Because when women and girls see themselves reflected in leadership — in business, government, and global institutions — it reshapes what is possible!
As I continue to criss-cross the globe, I love the time connecting with extraordinary women leaders. There are too many to mention, but a few highlights:
The incomparable.
In Indonesia: Minister HE Widi Wardhana, dynamic legislator, Cda’s Amb to ASEAN, former FM, Businesswomen & of APINDO and KADIN, Cherie Nursalim, Cathy Widjaja and so many others whose leadership continue to be impactful. In the Philippines: Undersecretary Angela Ignacio and her outstanding women leadership team. In the UAE, witnessing women entrepreneurs pitch their businesses at GITEX Global and win! In Singapore, Trade Minister, Carolyn Bérubé and the dynamic team.
At Milken Institute, a real highlight to engage with former FLOTUS whose leadership to advance women’s health will make a real difference. I commend Milken CEO Richard Ditizio, who intentionally convenes spaces for women’s leadership conversations — together with colleagues like Laura Deal Lacey and Ana Cespedes— that are candid, solutions-oriented, and centered on opening more doors for others.
Here at home in Canada, I’m constantly inspired by women shaping our country’s future — including Janice Charette, Canada’s chief trade negotiator for CUSMA/USMCA; my extraordinary friend, the longest-serving Chief of Staff to a Canadian Prime Minister; entrepreneur and Dragon’s Den powerhouse; Ambassador Kristen Hillman; visionary of Fête Chinoise; and sisters Jeanette and Jo at — and far too many I’ve left off. My apologies!
And beyond the global stages and boardrooms - BIG love to my girlfriends and the remarkable women in my family, always!
Today and very day, let’s celebrate women!!
Immigrating to Canada from Hong Kong as a young girl, she was inspired by the belief that “you have to see her to be her,“ a conviction that led her to run for public office and advocate for greater opportunity and representation.
