* Alexandrium: 13 juni t/m 19 juni
* Slingeplein: 21 juni t/m 28 juni
* Heemraadsplein: 30 juni t/m 6 juli
* Schouwburgplein: 8 juli t/m 14 juli

Thank you for those who bought a painting!
It’s always a joy that someone is going to have my art in their wall ❤️
After the paintings are sent off to their new homes, I’ll take a break. Soaking up the North Yorkshire landscape, and a bit of the Peak District.
I’m so looking forward to walks in nature and getting inspired by the country for new work.
Visual reminders help a lot.
I’ve started making miniature squares in a sketchbook, in which I draw things that make me happy.
Just about 1 or 2 minutes per square, to keep it simple.
Drawing and writing little pleasures down helps to remember them better.
I’ll keep adding to them whenever I’m reminded of something that makes me happy. Like the blue tits in the tree in front of my window right now!
I’ve kept these ones with me for quite a while. I don’t know why exactly but I wanted to keep them a little longer. But they’re ready to find new homes now! (And also because I need to pay some bills 😉)

Original artwork for sale, contemporary painting, still life painting.
They’ll be for sale this Saturday, via my newsletter.
I made the paintings after the first sessions of psychological therapy, several weeks ago.
It was such an intense experience, that the only way I could process it was through painting how it felt.
I’ve wanting to go back to a way of creating how I used to do it, to process life and get clarity. I feel this is the way.
The paintings symbolise the act of digging deeper within yourself than ever before.
It can be a heavy and challenging process, but it offers something beautiful in return: yourself.
Fuller, richer, and more colourful than before.
As with much of my work, these paintings are a visual translation of my experiences.
What I find beautiful is that feelings can be deeply personal, yet somehow there always someone, somewhere, understanding you.
It’s made with acrylic paint on wooden panels.
Two of the pieces are set in handmade frames, which I stained in a dark finish. The staining took a lot of time but I’m happy I did it. It gives the paintings that depth and vibrancy I was looking for.

🇳🇱🇬🇧 The workshop is in Dutch, but I’d be happy to speak in English too.
I’ve gotten some lovely feedback on the two previous Floral Joy workshops, saying it helped to loosen up their style, learning more about colours and creating more interesting and strong compositions.

👋 Hi! If we haven’t met yet: my name is Marloes (mahr-loose) De Vries, but you can call me Lou.
📍 I spend most of my time in the Netherlands but I’m in the U.K. as much as I can, as that’s where I feel most at home.
✏️ My work is mostly about being true to yourself (and self-acceptance) and enjoying the little things in life.
👵🏻 I’ve been freelancing for over 20 years.
I used to work as a (freelance and award-winning) art director at marketing agencies, graphic designer, portrait photographer, ghost illustrator (illustrating in other people’s style, under their name), and grave digger (amongst others).
I switched to illustration around 2008. I’ve illustrated a stack of books about as high as myself (1.72m, over 50 books), wrote 9 comic books and 1 non-fiction book.
As a writer, I write about mental well-being for magazines and books.
🌱 Recently, I decided spend more time on my own stories, art and books. I haven’t had a lot of time for this, as freelancing took up most of my days.
🧑🏫 I’ve been teaching art and how to run freelance careers since 2010. Next to my own practice, I freelance as a speaker, mentor and coach.
🤒 Burnout and depression is not something I’m unfamiliar with. I’ve experienced both multiple times and share my experiences online (Substack and newsletter) and in talks.
❤️ What makes me happy is being in nature (preferably in England), pink skies, pancakes with Dutch stroop, book shops, British detective series, tea with milk and sugar, writing and receiving letters from friends, and walking with bare feet over freshly cut grass.
😊 Also, I laugh really loudly, say what I think and enjoy meaningful conversations.
Feel free to let me know in the comments if you have any questions for me:) I’m pretty much an open book!

I did a bit of drawing, while Bram was reading a book.
Got a huge croissant and fresh bread to enjoy at home.
Thanks David, for the treat!
