April 24th has claimed a forever spot in my heart I think, because yesterday wasn’t only the first birthday of the Jigsaw Pants, my very first sewing pattern(!!), it was also the day my partner and I received the keys to our very first own home! 🔑🏡🥹
If you would’ve asked me a year ago where I would want to be today in terms of next patterns, I would probably have said something along the lines of “being well on my way with a third pattern” by this time. But well, life happened.
It’s been a hectic year for many reasons, which is simply just part of life - but I would be lying if I would pretend not to slightly sad about pattern #2 still being in the works. Hopefully I’ll be able to pick up the pace again after our move, because…
…one of the contributors to the hectic year is a very exciting one: we bought a house! With a backyard, and an atelier space, meaning I’ll have my own sewing studio soon!! 😍

Similarly, I make sure that I always have some small interfacing ‘patches’ on hand, which I use to reinforce individual buttonholes, inset corners, or repairs small damaged areas.
So whenever I have some random shaped offcuts of interfacing after cutting out some pattern pieces, I cut up those offcuts into strips and patches. And if I’m running low, I spend half an hour to refill my supply:)

To account for future size adjustments, consider the width of your seam allowances, as well as the type of seam finish you use: some are much easier to adjust later on, than others.
To account for future repairs, you could sew some patches on the inside of a garment: for instance on the pocket bags, or simply increase the size of inner layers (extra wide hems?), so you’ll always have matching fabric on hand for repairs!
Hidden patches are especially useful for denims, because this allows them to wash and wear at the same rate as the garment, which allows them to blend in super smoothly with the rest of the garment once you need them for a repair.

Because my aversion for ironing woven garments after laundry is clearly not leaving this chat anytime soon. As I noticed my pressing queue slowly starting to pile up again after a few early days of spring, I decided to finally try something new: a steamer!
I’ve been thinking of getting one for a while now, but got stuck trying to decide which one to get, whether it’d be worth it and if I needed it “enough” or if it’d turn out to be less practical than I hoped. Until I unexpectedly ran into this one: very affordable but pretty solid reviews. It seemed like quite a decent model, so I decided to give it a try!
As mentioned in the video: I bought it today, as I’m making this video. Which is why I’m not including any specific brand/product recommendations at this point: I haven’t used it enough yet to share a proper review. And this is not a sponsored video.
First impressions are quite positive, despite a couple of clumsy things in the way it was packaged. Overall it seems like a solid product that does what it’s supposed to do, so let’s see what it’ll be like in the long run 🙌

These are made in the same 195 gsm (5.75 oz) cotton twill from as the green pair of my partner I posted last week. This is the caramel colorway of the twill.
I used regular weight all-purpose thread for all stitching on this pair, incl. all topstitching, and I went for just a single line of stitching.
I flipped the direction of the seam above the back pleat, so the stitching ended up inside the pleat, which is a great variation if you’re doing any color blocking. It’s explained in more detail incl. multiple examples in the video sew-along on YouTube (around 27:40) for those interested in more info. Second link in my bio!
For this pair I also swapped the left & right pocket bag, to end up with the right-side of my pocket lining on the inside of the pants (instead of on the inside of the pocket like the instructions indicate).
Additionally, I finished a handful of raw edges with bias binding, to eliminate the need of any overlocked/zigzag finishes (a Hong Kong finish is perfect for these steps!) and I went for a pressed open inseam with bias binding, as an alternative neat finish that doesn’t require topstitching in a tunnel.
All of these different finishes and variations are also mentioned and briefly shown at each relevant step in the video sew-along. If anyone would like to see a more detailed step-by-step tutorial of any of these alternative methods or finishes: just let me know! Had to limit the amount of detail in the sew-along, but happy to elaborate in separate videos 😊.
This pair is a size 006 in length 2, high-rise with cuffed hems (hem A) and no mods other than a two-piece waistband so I could use my pocket lining fabric for the inner waistband! 😁

I am SO excited to introduce the Jigsaw Pants to you today!
Each pant leg consists of 14 different pattern pieces that wrap around the body. They have a wide and roomy fit, are slightly cropped, have ample ease around the hips and a strategically positioned pleat in the back. This diagonal pleat opens up when you lift your leg, resulting in a great range of motion.
They flare out slightly towards the hip to create a subtle diamond shape, as seen from front and back. This shape can be accentuated with heavy or stiffer fabrics, or it can be softened through lighter and drapier fabrics. Below the hip, they gradually taper in towards the hem. On the side of the leg, pieces lock into each other in a herringbone pattern.
16 Sizes: ranging 83-150 cm (32 ⅝ - 59”) in hip circumference
5 Lengths: ranging 155-195 cm (5’1” - 6’5”) in body height
