Bert was a constant figure in my life since 1999 when I joined UJ’s Hālau. I was this 18 year old Japanee boy amongst the Hawaiians tryna be like them, and sound like them. Bert made me feel welcome along with Eddy Atkins. They both ended up not only mentors but also really good friends.
So in 2010, when I released my first solo project “Lei Pua Kenikeni” they were the only ones I wanted by my side on that stage. We had so much fun, going here, going there….. doing this, and doing that. We would do so much off of the stage too. We’d go hunting, golfing, and fishing. But the most fun we’d have is when we went traveling for music, we’d go find sports to watch in person. We attended NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB games. We’d have a blast!
Anyway, I can go on and on about the good times because that’s all we had. They were GREAT times ❤️
