What type of photography are you most passionate about and why?
Portraits, commercial shoots, jewellery, fashion?
It is impossible to separate these types of shoots, as I love shooting in general. Of course, I am in love with jewellery shooting and portraits. Stones radiate a special energy and give confidence and style. I think that’s why we love jewellery so much!
Marina, you have produced and photographed a number of commercial and editorial spreads. What pieces of advice would you give to other aspiring photographers in the business?
In any business, acquaintances and contacts are important that will help for further development. You are the face of your brand. Therefore, it is very important to control the entire shooting process, even if you work in a super team. It is also important to be confident in your actions; this is how you can achieve success.
Tell us a little about your technique - how much of being a successful photographer is about talent, and how much is technique? What do you think makes a successful photographer?
Being a talented photographer means loving your job. Shoot in stress-resistant situations. When it’s hot outside, we shoot winter collections, or before sunrise, our hours are not nor-malised. Learn to work with different characters and person-alities. We are born with talent, but in addition to talent, you need to be persistent and hardworking. When it comes to technique, no magic formula will make your photo unique.
I always suggest experimenting and relying on intuition.
