I was based at the organization and enrolled at 🎓
My work focused on protoplanetary disks—the birthplaces of planets—in the Orion Nebula Cluster. There, the disks are externally irradiated by massive stars 🌟, which has a major effect on them, and I used observational data from a powerful spectrograph to find signatures of this process. Overall, we aim to understand how planet formation is affected by such conditions 🪐 You can find more about it in my pinned posts ☻︎

Headed to submit my thesis, plus a long list of paperwork – I've previously compared the anxiety levels of getting it all right to being chased by a bear 🏃♀️🏃♀️
💻 I focus on newborn stars which are surrounded by disks of cosmic gas and dust. From these disks, planets eventually form! 🪐
☄️ My PhD is about a particular type of these disks in the Orion Nebula, called proplyds. We have acquired information about them in a new level of detail

Neither of those. What we see here is 177-341 W, a young star nestled in the Orion Nebula, with a rather unusual shape. This star is surrounded by a disc of gas and dust, which is being eroded away by the intense light from some bright and massive stars lurking just beyond the upper-right corner of the frame 😮
The object was captured by the MUSE instrument on our Very Large Telescope (VLT), and presented in a new paper led by Mari-Liis Aru (ESO).
