I am saddened, angered, disappointed and feel like a failure. I feel I’ve let my country down, my team down and myself down.
I am officially an ‘Olympian’ - a title I have held so high for so long reaching out for it. Now that it’s here do I feel like I deserve it? Honestly, no. This is a product of my perfectionism and pressure I put on myself. One day I will be able to grasp just how much I appreciated this opportunity. The stinging will eventually simmer and I will begin to celebrate this accomplishment. Until then I will unfortunately cringe at the what if’s and if I did that’s.
Within the sadness and frustration there is relief and honourability. To be able to represent Canada on the biggest sporting stage in the world was a dream come true. I try to ignore my criticism of my technique or form in the photos and focus on the fact that I am diving with the rings, without it being a dream or photoshopped.
The journey to get here was incredibly challenging, yet rewarding. If I didn’t go through what I did in my life I would not have stood on that board knowing I was meant to be there and deserving in that moment.
22nd in the world doesn’t sound great. Until I realized that out of the 7.9 BILLION humans on earth, I am the 22nd best diver out of all 7.9 billion.
I am incredibly lucky I was able to share this experience with my family who were here cheering me on. I wouldn’t be here without you guys ❤️ as well as my team. Both support and coaching. I am undeniably grateful for everything you have provided me with.
I will come back stronger. I will come back hungrier. You can bet your ass I will come back with the same work ethic and motivation. Onto the next… 👀🔜🇺🇸?
