Finding your calling can be a life’s work. It takes time and the wisdom that comes from seeing yourself through different stages of life.
Our next storyteller, Margaret, embodies this philosophy.
About seven years ago, I met at an art fair in Amsterdam, where she shared her story with me. I wasn’t doing what I do now, but her words stayed with me.
I remember how she observed the world around her, and how the label of ‘later in life’ didn’t seem to fit her journey. It wasn’t time-bound. It was about when she was ready and able to step fully into her career as a photographer. In a way, she helped me think beyond age and see how career success and happiness can be measured by something other than our stage of life.
While preparing for the next edition of Career Story Nights, focused on age and the multigenerational workplace, I found myself reflecting on our conversation. Margaret shared an article from a 2023 interview with for that beautifully captures the essence of multi and intergenerational work.
‘I feel I definitely have a story to tell. By mixing the female story with the timeless beauty of nature, age becomes irrelevant, and the interpersonal resilience of women across all generations becomes visible. It is important for us women to work together, support, inspire and motivate each other. I call this ‘intergenerational feminism’.’

Although working in different disciplines, both artists share a deep sensitivity to the natural world and a distinctive approach to organic materials, texture, and transformation.
During the Artist Talk from 10:30 to 12:00, Margaret Lansink and Sheila Westera will come together in conversation about their practices, their relationship with nature, and the role of material in their work.

The exhibition Echoes by Margaret Lansink explores the delicate relationship between landscape, memory, and time. While rooted in photography, Lansink’s practice extends into painting, collage, and sculpture, transforming her images of nature into layered reflections on perception, impermanence, and our connection to the natural world.
Each work begins with a photograph made by the artist. Printed on delicate Japanese washi
paper and mounted on canvas, the image is reworked with layers of acrylic paint. Folds, tensions, and irregularities remain visible, becoming part of the work itself. Through this process, the works become poetic echoes of memory and experience, speaking of places that continue to live within us and of the imprints that experiences leave behind.
The exhibition runs until 7 November 2026

It was such a good feeling to see them all together.
One of the gallery assistants told me she had seen a video of me making the works. She said that seeing them in real life, and knowing a little about how they were made, made them feel even more special to her.
I really loved hearing that.
So I thought I’d share two works from the exhibition, together with a little glimpse of how they came into being.
Just a few more days now. Friday we open.
And honestly, it feels exciting — and a little scary too, to put a completely new body of work out into the world.

This Solo exhibition brings together recent works from my ongoing exploration of landscape, memory and time. I start with my own photographs, printed on very delicate 10gsm Japanese washi, and work over them with collage and natural acrylic paint. Layers are added, partly covered again, and sometimes left open. The folds, marks and small irregularities of the washi remain visible and become part of my work.
Here you’ll find a few glimpses of some of the unique works that will be in my exhibition. There are also a few artworks I haven’t shown here yet — so I hope you’ll come and see by yourself in the gallery.
I would love to welcome you at Bildhalle, to share these works with you and have a talk in person.
