In this series, Marcos Acosta returns to the same question again and again—not to answer it, but to complicate it.
Each painting offers a familiar landscape, grounded in the physical world. Rock, sky, horizon. But then something shifts. A band of color interrupts. A fragment of light that feels too precise, too saturated, too intentional to belong entirely to nature.
What we’re looking at begins to slip.
Is it a moment of light passing through the landscape?
Or something inserted? Constructed? Remembered?
Across these works, perception becomes unstable. The eye searches for certainty, but the paintings resist it. What appears natural starts to feel staged. What feels artificial begins to read as real.

There is a quiet tension in this work. A landscape that feels both ancient and immediate, familiar yet just out of reach. Acosta renders the terrain with striking clarity, but it is the interruption, the luminous band cutting across the horizon, that shifts everything.
A gesture of energy, memory, or thought. Something passing through rather than fixed.
In Everything is Forgotten, the landscape becomes less about place and more about perception. What is stable begins to dissolve. What feels eternal becomes momentary. The work holds that fragile space between knowing and sensing, between what we see and what we feel but cannot explain.
Part of Fragile Thought, Acosta’s current exhibition explores this threshold between the physical world and the interior one, where intuition quietly overrides logic.

For Acosta, art making is a form of contemplation and spiritual inquiry. His works, depicting specific geological formations, give physical form to intuitive insights—images that extend beyond the literal and tap into the ineffable.
Across his imposing, rocky, and snowy fields, vibrant, precise, geometric lines and swathes of color cut through his landscapes like lightning bolts and cosmic veils —luminous, temporal, and mysterious. The lines function as metaphors for bastions of invisible energy. They are connective tissue merging human and transcendent forces. They are fleeting yet decisive, structured, yet fragile. Their presence introduces time and consciousness into otherwise seemingly immutable and static landscapes. According to Acosta, human thought is suspended between logic and intuition. One dimension seeks explanation and structure; the other operates with a quiet certainty beyond language. Nature becomes a mirror for this tension. We experience ourselves as separate from it, yet our intuition continually suggests that we are inextricably part of it.

Here I found those deep connections, new friends that for sure will last forever. And I found sense of belonging through nature, that showed me the strong bounds between distant places. Could be the Roaring Fork near Aspen, or the Río Chico de Nono in Córdoba, apparently divided by thousands of miles and imaginary boundaries, they are the same place though. They are the same soul. That lesson applies for us too. We are one, divided by our beliefs, that are just illusions.

Hace poco más de un año que llegué a Colorado desde Córdoba. Parece poco tiempo, pero para mí fue increíblemente largo. Cada paso ha sido un aprendizaje, un nuevo punto de vista, un descubrimiento cotidiano. ¡Estoy muy agradecido por esta increíble oportunidad! El arte siempre, desde niño, funcionó como un portal para mí. Una herramienta que abrió puertas, algunas de ellas inimaginables. El arte me ha estado conectando con personas increíbles. Y la vida se trata de eso: conexiones que se pueden establecer en un nivel profundo. Aquí encontré esas conexiones profundas, nuevos amigos que seguramente durarán para siempre. Y encontré un sentido de pertenencia a través de la naturaleza, que me mostró fuertes vínculos entre lugares distantes. Podría ser el Roaring Fork cerca de Aspen, o el Río Chico de Nono en Córdoba, aparentemente divididos por miles de kilómetros y fronteras imaginarias, aunque son el mismo lugar. Son la misma alma. Esa lección también se aplica a nosotros. Somos uno, sólo que estamos divididos por nuestras creencias, que son sólo ilusiones.

This work, commissioned by a collector from Chicago, is part of the Floating Cities series. In this dark city appears a fragment of sky that is there to remember us where we belong. The presence is like a mirror of ourselves, but the reflection in the river's water is inverted, like a warning about the illusion that we are experiencing in life. And there is only one light in the buildings. Maybe someone forgot that light on. That oblivion seems to be a hope, a reminder that our inner light is always there to guide us through the illusion to finally remember that sky. This painting is about an oblivion, which is, paradoxically, an inescapable memory of what is there since always.

Esta obra, encargada por un coleccionista de Chicago, forma parte de la serie Ciudades Flotantes. En esta ciudad oscura aparece un fragmento de cielo que está ahí para recordarnos a dónde pertenecemos. La presencia es como un espejo de nosotros mismos, pero el reflejo en el agua del río está invertido, como un aviso sobre la ilusión que estamos viviendo en la vida. Y sólo hay una luz en los edificios. Quizás alguien olvidó esa luz encendida. Ese olvido parece ser una esperanza, un recordatorio de que nuestra luz interior siempre está ahí para guiarnos a través de la ilusión para finalmente recordar ese cielo. Este cuadro trata de un olvido, que es paradójicamente, un recuerdo ineludible de lo que está ahí desde siempre.
