I’ve spent the last months creating something I wished existed every time I stood on a mountain in the dark, checking three different weather apps, trying to figure out if getting up for the sunrise was actually worth it.

It’s called Inverza - a weather app built specifically for landscape photographers. Not another generic forecast. Not another sun calculator. An app that understands what we actually need to know: Are the clouds in the right part of the sky to catch the light? When does sunlight actually clear the ridge - not the flat-earth time every app shows? Will there be fog in the valley at dawn? Is tonight dark and clear enough for the Milky Way? It detects 9 photo conditions automatically - afterglow, golden clouds, ground fog, hoarfrost, aurora, storm light, valley mist, fresh snow, Milky Way - each with a confidence score.

It has a shadow map that shows you where mountain shadows fall up to 30 hours ahead. That’s something I’m really proud of and fine-tuned the algorithm for weeks on actual location!

And you can just ask it in plain language: “Will there be fog at sunrise tomorrow?”

It’s free to try. No ads. No tracking. No account. Just open it and go.

I built this because I’m a landscape photographer first. I got tired of the 4am gamble. I wanted to know before I left the house whether conditions would deliver - and if I should drive to the overlook or stay in bed.

I just launched an Instagram page for it where I’ll be sharing weather science, condition breakdowns, and community shots planned with Inverza. Check out the first post - 9 conditions every landscape photographer should know how to read.

If you’ve ever driven two hours for a grey sky, this one’s for you.
'Inversion'

Landscape photography is in equal parts hiking, clicking the shutter and also obsessive weather tracking and planning. 📈☁️

I caught this 30-second exposure in Madeira just as the inversion hit its peak. Five minutes after this frame, the visibility dropped to zero—a total whiteout. In 2026, “getting lucky” isn’t a reliable strategy; you have to be able to read the moisture models and time the gap perfectly.

There’s a specific grit to a real photograph that AI just can’t replicate. An algorithm can generate a “perfect” mountain, but it didn’t stand in the freezing wind waiting for the light to break. It doesn’t know the adrenaline of seeing the fog roll in or the satisfaction of hitting the shutter at the exact right moment.

Photographers are the lucky ones because we actually get to experience the raw emotion of nature, not just prompt a version of it. This shot isn’t just pixels—it’s the record of a win against the elements.

I’ve been working on a tool to make this exact type of “predictive” shooting better for all of us. Less guessing, more photographing. Stay tuned. 🛠️📱

'Smooth Fire'

Portugal's autonomous regions, the various islands in the South, are a photographer's heaven. European Hawaii or islands of flowers - doesn't matter how you call it. With weather conditions changing as rapidly as they do (when it's raining on one side of the island, just drive to the other) - it provides endless opportunities for us photographers 🤍📷
.
This photo was taken during sunset before a thunderstorm rolled in. Long exposure for about a minute for the sky.
'Arctic Lavender and Peach'
.
Captured in Iceland during the winter of 2022/2023, one of the strongest in history, this photograph showcases how beautiful extreme conditions can be.
Iceland's south witnessed more snowfall this year than in the past five decades. On December 19th, 2022, extreme weather conditions and road closures resulted in 52 out of 70 flights being canceled at Keflavík International Airport, leaving passengers stranded at the airport. Then, on December 28th, 2022, the lowest temperature since 1918 was recorded in Reykjavík.
I specifically like the contrasts of this photo - the soft snow versus the hard rock formations of Reynisdrangar but also fact that it was freezing cold out there - yet the image still looks warm and almost like food.. hence the name "Arctic Lavender and Peach".
'Sunset Flowers'
.
These yellow globe flowers are some of the most beautiful and unique flowers you can find on alpine meadows in early summer. I love how they remind me of fireflies frozen in place - especially in out of focus areas of a photograph 💛
'Chocolate by the Sea'
.
Still hot summer, so here's another image taken in Iceland last winter. Loved the contrast of the black sand beach vs the ice cold water. Long exposure makes it look beautiful. In reality, safety guards had to pull people away from the beach due to dangerous currents...better to enjoy the views from home:)
'Blue Curacao and Milk'
.
Captured in Iceland last winter. Helps me cool off just buy looking at it. Something we all night need during these summer days 🤍❄️
Dancing Ice
.
Photographed right after the coldest day in Iceland since 1918 ❄️ Extremes can sometimes bring out the beautiful side of nature.
'Frozen Air'

This is 600 Megapixels! Why? Because it was negative 20 degrees Celsius and the spray of the waterfall froze instantly when hitting metal or glass. My first attempt with the wide angle lens was too naive - no protection meant instant freezing making the lens unusable.

Luckily, I had more lenses and could create a panorama with the 35mm equivalent lens (and microfiber cloth in front of it between each shot). In the end, all lenses were frozen over but it also meant that the image looks as if it was foggy- a look that I love so much. Here, it was literally frozen air 🤍
'Emerald Storm'

Capturing this image was a struggle and you'd see it in the full res file/print when you zoom in on the stars.
They are jittery due to the struggle during the 81 sec exposure. Iceland experienced some heavy snow in the past weeks and this Aurora appeared during one of the snow storms. I pressed down the tripod and camera as firm as I could (at times both me, cam and tripod were blown away by the storm) and only due to that and the stabilizer, the image turned out good.
I think it's those 'iykyk imperfections' that add soul to an image though.
.
Resilience is the soul of 'Emerald Storm' 💚
