This custom “Halo’s Way” sign was made in memory of one unforgettable mastiff named Halo. Before I started painting, her mama shared the story behind the sign with me — and I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.
Halo wasn’t named because she was an angel… she was named after a bottle of Cabernet. 🍷 And according to her family, she was stubborn, driven, wildly intelligent, and absolutely determined to do life her own way.
One day at the beach, while three adults and four mastiffs searched for an easy path over the rocks to the water… Halo simply disappeared. A moment later, they spotted her already in the ocean. She had found her own way down.
That was Halo.
Always independent.
Always fearless.
Always “Halo’s Way or no way.”
This sign now marks the little path she used to take to the water — a simple trail filled with memories, paw prints, laughter, and love that still lingers long after goodbye.
By the time I finished reading her story, I was crying right along with her owner. Because anyone who has loved a dog like this understands… they leave paw prints on more than just the sand. 🐾

This one hit a little different.
With my rotator cuff surgery happening Wednesday, this was my last big install before I’m officially out of commission for a while. I’ve been trying to practice using my left arm because my right one won’t be much help for the next couple months 😅
There’s something emotional about loading up one more arch, making one more coastal delivery, and soaking in the ocean views before slowing down for healing.
Grateful for every couple who trusts us to be part of their wedding day.
Grateful for Anthony helping me get this beast delivered.
And grateful my body held on long enough to get one more big project done.

The day after Christmas, I met Lorna at my driftwood storage space to showcase our 13-foot branches for a handrail. During our conversation, I learned that Lorna had spent 18 years as a helicopter pilot in the service. As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes, and she shared the heartbreaking reason behind her need for a strong and sturdy handrail.
Lorna explained, “You must have heard about the drone strike in Iran yesterday.” Admitting that I live somewhat under a rock, I confessed I hadn’t heard the news. She went on to reveal that her husband, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Garrett Illerbrunn, was one of the two men attacked the day before. With Garrett in a coma, Lorna was set to depart for Germany that afternoon, leaving their 7-year-old son in the care of her parents.
Despite the devastating news, Lorna felt compelled to visit and choose a handrail from my collection. She expressed that, in the face of uncertainty, she needed the strength of a sturdy driftwood handrail to lean on. In that moment, we both shared tears, and I offered to burn their names into the handrail as a tribute.
I am deeply honored to have crafted this resilient driftwood handrail, intending to provide strength and hope to Lorna and Garrett during this challenging time.
