🌺LAST NIGHT/ PĀʻINA🌺

旅のハイライトは、Davisさんのお祖母様でありKumu Hulaでもある Esther Kuʻuleinani Correa の歌声にのせて、“Welina Oʻahu” を踊ることができたことです。
(Aunty Estherは現在なんと101歳！✨)
数年前、ミカ先生はAunty Estherとお家の片隅で一緒にウクレレを弾き、歌いながら、かけがえのない時間を過ごしていました。その時、「いつか生徒たちにこのMeleを教えよう」とインスピレーションを受けたそうです。
私たちは日本でミカ先生から “Welina Oʻahu” を学びました。そして、いつの日かこんな形で、レジェンドであるAunty Estherご本人の歌声にのせて踊ることができる日が来るなんて、夢にも思っていませんでした。
Aunty Estherの温かい歌声と、ミカ先生がこのMeleに込めてくださった愛は、私たちの心と身体に深く刻まれています。
この瞬間は、一生忘れることのない宝物です。

最終夜はミカ先生とDavisさんのご家族が心を込めて準備してくださった、最高に美味しいハワイアンフードをいただくことができました。
【Laulau & Kalua Puaʻa】
前日にKukuiloloaで収穫した lau kalo と lau ʻī で包んだLaulauは、IMUでじっくりと調理され、ホロホロに柔らかく、とても美味しかったです。
自分たちの手で収穫から調理までを経験し、その食べ物をいただくという体験は、忘れられない思い出になりました。

のフレッシュで濃厚なPoi。
水で薄めることなく、そのまま贅沢にいただきました。
【Poke】
なんと私たちのPāʻinaに合わせて、DavisさんのKukuiloloa Farmで働いているインターン生の1人がAhiを丸ごと一匹釣ってくださり、その獲れたての魚を使ってDavisさんがPokeを作ってくださいました。
新鮮なPokeがこんなにも美味しいものなのかと、とても感動しました。

Our final night of Huakaʻi was nothing short of magical.
We were welcomed with open arms by the Waiwaiole ʻOhana and surrounded by breathtaking views, beautiful music, delicious food, and endless aloha.
It was a night we will never forget. Mahalo nui loa to Mikasensei, Davis, Aunty Sylvia, Aunty Aloha, Aunty Kishti, and all who made this unforgettable pāʻina possible.

🐟Paepae O Heʻeia🐟

2015年に訪れたPaepae O Heʻeiaを2026年に再度訪れることができました。
【Paepae O Heʻeia】
オアフ島カネオヘ湾にある古代養殖場（Loko Iʻa）である Heʻeia Fishpond を守り、復元するための非営利団体です。2001年に若いハワイアンたちによって設立されました。
Heʻeia Fishpond は約800年前に築かれたとされるオアフ島最大級の魚池で、その広さはアラモアナセンターがすっぽり入ってしまうほど。
現在も、石垣の修復作業や外来種の駆除、魚や海藻の管理、Kaloの育成をしています。池で育った貴重な魚は主にコミュニティの皆さんや、ハワイの子供達へと行き渡ります。
今回はKalo畑のお世話のお手伝いや、石垣を組み立てる体験をさせて頂きました。
何度訪れても新しい学びがあり、今回も多くの気づきを得ることができました。
畑で働くこととフラには、一見すると結びつかないようでいて深い繋がりがあります。実際にその場で学び、手を動かすことで、ハワイの文化とフラが決して切り離せないものであることを改めて実感しました。
Working in the loʻi and practicing hula may seem like separate things, but they are deeply intertwined. Through hands-on learning on the land, we gained a deeper understanding that hula cannot be separated from Hawaiian culture, history, and our relationship with ʻāina.
