Our psychologist and expressive arts therapy practitioner, Ms. Asmita Bijlani, recently led an interactive workshop on Art-Based Therapy for 7th semester B.A. Psychology (Honors) students at the Manipal Institute of Liberal Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, Bengaluru (MAHE), as part of their World Mental Health Day celebration.
The session blended theory with hands-on experientials, using an intermodal approach to art therapy so students could not only learn about expressive arts therapy but experience it themselves.
Through activities like drawing with the non-dominant hand, scribbling, and giving emotions colour, shape and texture, students explored how creative expression can support:
🌿 Emotional well-being
🌿 Stress management
🌿 Self-awareness
🌿 Communication
We also discussed the applications, benefits and ethical considerations of art-based approaches, and the room was full of curiosity, reflection and openness. 💜
