From the road, the house presents as a long cedar-clad gable with no windows. The surface is tongue-and-groove vertical boarding, honey-toned and uniformly tight, broken only by a concrete plinth and a service unit near the street edge. The roof ridge runs clean to both ends. Nothing in the exterior discloses what is happening inside, and that opacity is the argument.

南側に大きな崖を背負い、道路から約4mの高台に位置する800㎡ほどの敷地。
崖条例の諸条件を回避しながら、そのうち約280㎡を有効に残した敷地の中央に建物を計画した。
南側からの採光、北側に広がる長閑で大らかな環境を取り入れるため、切妻屋根の末広がりの平面構成によるローコストプロジェクトである。

三番町の長屋 － Sanbancho no nagaya －
築50年ほど経つ鉄骨造の店舗兼住宅のリノベーションです。
耐震性の確保や長屋のデメリットを克服するために、一部3階建部分のスラブを解体して縦型の大きなスリッド窓を設け、南側に広がる公園の樹木を借景にした光と風が行き渡る開放的な空間をつくりました。
個々の空間はセンターコアとし、空間の気配や雰囲気を回遊させながらプライベートを確保しています。

《ダイナミックな環境に根付く》
壮観な大海原を一望できる高台の反面、崖条例の制約や沿岸部ゆえの塩害や西風対策が必須となる対極な環境の特性を、建築がどのように応えて暮らしに繋げていくかを探り、フレームやエレメントにフォーカスして単純化とコストコントロールを同時に図っていった。
一方向に抜ける平面計画に対して、屋根と外壁のエレメントを同期させ、登梁と斜め登梁が連続する大型フレームを組み、テント膜で全体を覆い架けている。この大胆な操作は、環境をダイレクトに享受する大らかな空間の獲得に繋がり、テント膜の抱擁は環境とリンクして軽快感と柔軟性を持ち合わせたやわらかい建築の実現となりました。
コテージやヴィラでもない住宅として、自然や周辺環境に寄り添いながら、その地に根付いた風土になる建築としてあり続けていきたい。
