Night is interesting because what remains is the residue of decisions, the physical fact of choices made. The question of order. Whether it exists, and if so, where it lives. We are trained to see certain configurations as [dis]order. But this is mainly due to one’s poverty of interpretation. It mistakes one kind of logic for the only kind. A system that progresses via accretion has no single designated protagonist. This is what disturbs us. We want to know who is responsible, who decided, who can be blamed or praised. The accumulated city often offers no such comfort. It simply is, the sum of ten million decisions made with/out coordination, each one [ir]rational in its moment, together producing something no one intended. The sign painted over yesterday’s sign communicates today’s message..

The exhibition invites reflection on exile. Featuring works by artists from numerous countries, the show addresses pressing issues like social violence, political oppression, migration, and the erosion of freedoms, while presenting artworks as posters that allow visitors to take away a piece of the exhibition.

The project is organised by the 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗵-𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, one of the largest worldwide protection programmes for at-risk artists and cultural actors. The peer-curated exhibition and festival showcases the work of almost 50 of the programme’s fellows.

📷 Photo fam, join us for Temporalities of the Photograph – a workshop with Muhammad Salah Abdulaziz & Stefanie Kulisch designed to expand our understanding of how images move through time and space. Traditionally, photographs have been framed as static evidence of the past – what Roland Barthes called “that-has-been.” Yet, as we make, archive, and share images, photographs take on new lives.

Over the course of this workshop, participants will engage with exercises that encourage “slow looking” and critical dialogue. Through these hands-on activities, the photograph emerges not as a single moment in time, but as a dynamic site of encounters. Each inch of an image holds equal importance, offering infinite possibilities. The workshop invites us to consider the photograph as a vessel, a means, and a destination, simultaneously.
