Die Entscheidung ist über den Winter gereift und nunmehr amtlich. Nach 15 Jahren schließe ich das Kapitel Profisport endgültig ab, blicke dankbar zurück und voller Neugierde der Zukunft entgegen. Was bleibt ist eine randvolle #Schatzkiste mit wertvollen Erfahrungen und großen Emotionen, ein Olympiasieg und ein paar Wochen im Scheinwerferlicht.
Der Weg war steinig, hat mich aber genau deshalb als Persönlichkeit geprägt und als Sportler reifen lassen. Ich habe Demut und Respekt erfahren, weiß, wie hart Verzicht ist, wie es sich anfühlt, in der Niederlage allein zu sein und im Erfolg die Schultern weich geklopft zu bekommen. Ich habe mich mit sozialer Isolation und Existenzängsten auseinandergesetzt, auf meinem Weg Hürden gemeistert, deren Höhe ich mir oftmals gar nicht zugetraut hätte. Ich habe so ziemlich alles was wichtig ist außen vorlassen, habe gut die Hälfte meines Daseins aus der Reisetasche gelebt.
War es das wert?
Der Olympiasieg rechtfertigt das große Ganze, die Genugtuung und innere Zufriedenheit macht aber weniger die Goldene, sondern vielmehr der Weg aus. Ich weiß was Rückendeckung bedeutet und was es heißt durch dick und dünn zu gehen. Ich habe gelernt, dass Hartnäckigkeit eine Charakterfrage ist, Teamwork und Kompromissfähigkeit Erfolgsgaranten sind. Es stimmt, Niederlagen machen einen, sofern gut aufgearbeitet, stärker und ja, der Spitzensport ist tatsächlich eine sehr gute Schule fürs Leben. Ich nehme also wesentlich mehr mit als eine Medaille mit zwei Seiten und Erfolg im Sinne von Pokalen und Medaillen. Dafür bin ich unendlich dankbar! Der Familie, den Freunden, Förderern, euch allen und ganz besonders dir.
In diesem Sinne, es war wunderschön und hat mich sehr gefreut – auf zu neuen Ufern!
