This summer, Jacob is completing a 10-week internship at New Mexico Tech, where he is studying carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Working with researchers in the petroleum engineering department, he is investigating how the mineral olivine can be used to permanently store carbon dioxide while gaining experience with advanced analytical techniques used in chemistry and materials research.
🔬 Why he chose chemistry:
Jacob's passion for chemistry started in the first grade after watching LSU chemistry students perform science demonstrations. That early spark grew into a love of asking questions, solving problems, and using chemistry to improve everyday life—from developing new materials to addressing environmental challenges like carbon sequestration.
🎯 Career goals:
Jacob plans to pursue a Ph.D. in chemistry and continue conducting research in academia, industry, or at a national laboratory—wherever he can keep learning and doing the work he loves.

Jacob has been solving Rubik's Cubes since second grade and has competed in more than 10 competitions over the past decade!

JeMyia is passionate about helping students feel confident in math, especially in a subject where many students develop self-doubt early on. Her motivation to teach comes from her own experiences as a student and her desire to be the kind of mentor and educator she once needed herself.

Jasmine is staying in Baton Rouge this summer while taking Vertebrate Physiology and Advanced Oral Communication in Spanish. At the same time, she is continuing research in Dr. Gaurav Kandlikar’s lab, where she is studying how microbial legacies in the soil shape population growth dynamics of Brassica rapa.
🔬 What she loves most about science:
For Jasmine, one of the best parts of science is the collaborative nature of learning. She enjoys not only discovering new scientific concepts, but also learning alongside classmates, professors, and lab teammates throughout the process.

Outside of academics, Jasmine enjoys doing crafts and listening to audiobooks, often combining the two during her free time.
