We ate lots of fresh raspberry shakes, laughed until we cried, went to the cute local theater for a show, wore more sweatshirts then swimsuits, loved hard on our baby Kohen, and had a friend happen to be staying nearby to snap a few pictures of us all together
Summer please slow down ☀️
The work put into creating it has been something special
I wanted to capture it in music and video form so I wrote this song for Kris for Father’s Day (with the help of AI 😘) and I love how it turned out!
Capturing all the layers of our path here
I gathered some of the videos and pictures from the process of this house becoming our home and Kyra worked her video magic to create this gift for Kris
Doing this reminded me how deep God can be in the details of our story, especially during hard times
“The balance of our work and His purpose Became a story we could see— That while we were building this house, God was building a home for our family “
I’m so grateful that God guided us when we couldn’t see ❤️
Having her home this summer is THE BEST!
No matter what bad information continues to be spread regarding Down syndrome,
this boy (and his sisters ) will keep spreading a level of joy and light that tests, scans and statistics will never do justice
I watched in awe the other night at a wedding as Noah purposefully found each girl and one by one gathered them together for his selfie 🥰
This is a blessing not a glitch
We were new to this group with our recent move and were all a little nervous going into it because we have only ever done trek with our old area, but we made so many new friendships and it was the perfect way to start our time here. I’m grateful we got to be a part of it again!
Kris and I were able to be a ma and pa to a group of youth this week (both of our girls each had different trek families too) and we love them so much! I miss them already!
The best part of trek is watching everyone come together to do hard things, and as we do, we each find personalized ways to feel closer to God.
A few words to a song Kris did for our trek family
“Walk with Him, step by step
Through every trial you haven’t faced yet
Walk with Him, start today
He’ll be beside you all the way
Through sleepless nights and aching feet
Through joy and pain and summer heat
We didn’t walk this road alone
We felt His love, we’ve come to know
Stronger together, that will stay
Long after trek has gone away
And every step from here we take
We’ll walk with Him, no matter what it takes “
we said goodbye to the only elementary school any of us have ever known 😭. I don’t think I was prepared for the emotions I would feel as I walked away with Noah for the last time.
I have had a child (or multiple children ) at this school for 19 straight years. With the move to our new house Noah will attend a new elementary next year. He has been struggling with this reality the last few days and it finally hit us both how much change is coming for him (he is the only one of the kids who will change schools )
Last night I laid by him in bed as he tearfully let out his feelings
“mom I’m scared for my new school, I am going to miss my friends, I don’t have any friends at my new school, I’m a hero but I don’t have any friends at my new school or my new neighborhood …. Well Wendy is my friend (Wendy is the lady next door 😘) “ ( also I love that he told me he was a hero )
We talked about how sad we are to leave and how hard change is but how many new friends he can make at his new school,
This morning he told me he didn’t want to go to school because he didn’t want to say goodbye. So as we walked out the door I prayed his big tender heart would feel peace as he faced these emotions today …. Noah randomly asked if we could take a selfie, And when I saw the light rays in our photo I felt his Indy Llew reminding us both she would be near him wherever he goes 💛
Our family grew here,
It will always be a part of us ❤️
There’s a light inside you shining from above.”
Happy birthday to our sunshine boy!
Kris had written me a song for Mother’s Day so Noah requested his own for his birthday 😘
And Kyra was required by Noah 😜 to make a birthday video
These words are my favorite ❤️
“Filled with kindness, faith and love.
You make room for everyone you’ll see.
That’s the kind of boy you’re meant to be.
Big heart, big dreams all come true.
The world feels better because of you.“
Grateful every day that God had bigger plans then we could have written that led us to this little boy
11 years old ❤️🎉
It’s like this hyper speed time lapse of all the emotions I’ve ever felt from the first day she was born until today.
Every emotion,
every fear,
every tear,
every smile,
every heartache,
every success….
every bit of it
is alive in her
all at once
as she shines on that dance floor.
An overwhelming rush
of how beautifully hard
and extraordinarily magical
walking this path of special needs
has been the last 17 years
All wrapped up in the depth of what she has done the past 4 years
I still pinch myself that this is real
I still stand in awe and humble gratitude
that we survived the rough terrain while climbing the mountains needed to get her here
As those heavenly almond eyes
and that radiant smile
dance with every movement of her body …
A body that has to work twice as hard as other bodies to be here….
The world feels lighter
And for 2 min and 5 seconds
all the right things matter
And heaven feels a little closer
When she hits her final pose,
It’s evident how proud she is of all she has pushed through to get here
The crowds roar
The tears fall
The teammates hold her
And we are forever changed for good
Thank you for capturing this priceless gift
Our oldest Kyra, got married to her high school sweetheart last October and brought the most incredible son in law, Abe, into our family.
They are college students but have been working in North Carolina this summer
Adrie, our second oldest went to Utah state for a year before deciding she wanted to serve a mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She left a few weeks ago to serve the people of Spokane Washington for the next 18 months
Bree, is a senior and living her best life as a 4th year member of the drill team at the high school (a competition sport team ) and this year also joined the varsity cheer team
Bree surprised us when she was born with her Down syndrome diagnosis and has been shifting our lives to beautiful paths ever since
After Bree, we experienced an ectopic pregnancy and then a late miscarriage at 16 weeks 💔(our 3rd miscarriage)
We started wondering if adoption was our next step and were led to our daughter Mia, a 4.5 year old with Down syndrome, living in an orphanage in Ukraine since her birth
We rushed to get to her before she was transferred to an adult mental institution there and brought her home in 2011
Mia and Breezy are a month apart. Mia is thriving as a senior too in her own beautiful way.
A week after getting home with Mia I went to the doctor to see why my “jet lag “ wasn’t going away. That jet lag turned out to be twins 😆
19 weeks into the pregnancy we were rushed to California to have an in utero surgery to try and save our twins from Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. A risky surgery but necessary, or we would have lost them both in a matter of days
The surgery was a miracle and both twins were out of immediate danger but still had a long way to go so I was sent home on complete bed rest for the next 5 months
Claire and Livvy were born in 2012 taking us from 3 kids to 6 kids in 10 months 😜
Another unexpected path led us to Down syndrome adoption again, through a little boy we never got to bring into our family, and that little boys story led us to Noah ❤️
Noah came home from an orphanage in Ukraine in 2016
Grateful for this space to connect
I wish I could go back to that cold snowy day and wipe all the darkness and sadness away
She came carrying the most beautiful pieces of heaven with her that day and watching her share them with the world has been my greatest blessing
Breezy girl, I can’t even think about this day without tears in my eyes because 15 years ago today the most beautiful chapter was added to our story and I always have to spend extra quiet time on this day remembering the aches of our hearts that built love around you in a way we had never known before
You changed our story from a rough draft into a masterpiece
The modifications and edits only you could have brought have been nothing short of miraculous
Thank you for dreaming big, for loving purely, and for forgiving us when we don’t see the whole picture like you do 💕
Keep flying baby girl💗😭
We love you so much
