Dior, Miu Miu and Chloé rings, at the shop and on
The purpose of this post is to avoid more shoplifting in other shops as there is no doubt these thieves will reoffend.
Since I have opened my little parisian boutique, lots of people have stolen beautiful items from my shop. It causes me huge stress attacks, makes me physically sick, it takes thousands of hours of my time to deal with the police, watch the cameras, create the files against the shoplifters and I lose mindblowing amounts of money that no insurance will cover. Most of all, it makes me SO angry.
The person on the first photo stole my magnetic detacher to remove the sensors protecting the clothes from being stolen. She or her friends will use it to steal from other shops. So if you know any other shop owners please share this post so that they can maybe avoid big loss and lots of stress. And be extra careful.
The photos following are two Australian girls who stole from me last year, spent two nights in jail, I don’t know what happened next. The police said they are known in several countries for shoplifting. Remember their face and don’t let them in. The two older men on the video stole two of my most precious Chanel pieces in 2023.
And on the last photo is the couple who stole Chanel jewelry, I chased them (running) for half an hour before the police finally caught up with us.

There are a lot more people. They are always smiling, very nice, extra polite, they make sure not to look suspicious.

In France, 8 out of 10 shops are victims of shoplifting, in 2025 there has been an increase of 15% of shoplifing.

Share share share and be extra careful.

I wish you for 2026 lots of kindness, love and laughs.
Take care ♥️
Eloïse

Here is a little story to change your mind from going loco on the black Friday sales 😚. 20 years ago I was studying Management of Luxury and Beauty marketing in a business school in Nantes. Before that I had spent two years studying in a preparatory school, the hardest working years of my life yet also the most interesting ones. They opened my eyes on geopolitics, and specifically on the exploitation of human and natural ressources. When passing the last exams ending these crazy 2 years, I opened a newspaper and it struck me, I was understanding everything, the worldwide connections, politics, economy. It felt like suddenly someone had lighten up my brain and my world. I kept on studying in business school, spent 8 months in an other business school in the USA 🇺🇸, and came back to France to dive into fashion, my favorite subject of all. My focus was on sustainability in fashion. Months of research, reading and interviewing later, I was ready to write my “thesis” but I was appalled. Appart from Louis Vuitton hardly any Fashion brand seemed to be making efforts to pollute less or to show a slight interest in the subject. It was 20 years ago. We have gone from ignoring totally the tole that fashion has on the environment to reading and listening about it everyday, being flooded by informations on the subject. There are now hundreds of second hand websites, thousands of sustainable brands. In 20 years we have made so much progress, it’s wonderful!
So today think about that when you feel like emptying your bank account on fake sales on products you don’t need, which kill the planet and us at the same time. Take a deep breath and go contemplate trees in a park, it’s going to be a sunny day ☀️
But if you really feel like buying something, you can come visit us 🥰, we have received lots of treasures from the past, freshly cleaned by me, which will last forever and maybe more.
Bisou bisou 🌿
It happens quite often that I have customers in the shop who find something they like and check while still in the shop if they can find it cheaper on Vestiaire Co or Vinted and then ask for a discount.
I totally understand. But here are a few things to bring some light and empathy into your heart 🥰.
First you know what to search on these websites because you have seen and tried it on in my shop. It’s thanks to ALL our work that you discover the hidden treasures of these second hand websites.
A shop is not just four walls and some clothes, there is a whole world behind it. This can be useful if you want to create a vintage shop 🌏🌱
You need to have:
- A excellent expertise on what you sell. Train at Drouot, watch all the videos online to spot the counterfeit details. Read a lot of books about vintage clothes. Hang in luxury shops, inspect the details of the products.
- A website, a web developer, a web host (count 1500€ per year to have a dedicated server), it costs quite a lot but this is a window on all your products and it will save your business in case of another covid. I have been recommended o2switch, apparently they are amazing.
- A good lawyer. Don’t forget to Patent your name!
- INSURANCE: I pay around 3000€ a year for the minimum. It never ever covers shoplifting inside the shop unless there is violence.
- An accountant, I pay around 4000€ a year. I am doing all the consignment sheets, updates and bank transfers. They do the rest.
- Ideally a software to deal with the consignment. It’s very expensive, I personally can’t afford it yet, but if you do you will save a lot of time.
- If I had enough cash, I would not to do consignment anymore, it’s highly time consuming and honestly a real pain. I would advise to buy directly and négociate low prices to have good margins.
- The VAT on second hand items is 20%, plus you add all the other French business taxes. It’s A LOT. Make simulation to see how many clothes and what margin you have to make to be able to pay all your costs and hopefully your salary.
- For security: Anti theft sensor gate, sensors on all clothes and accessories (count 4000€)
